Enhancement of pairing in a boson-fermion model for coupled ladders

José A. Riera

Motivated by the presence of various charge inhomogeneities in strongly correlated systems of coupled ladders, a model of spatially separated bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom is numerically studied. In this model, bosonic chains are connected to fermionic chains by two types of generalized Andreev couplings. It is shown that for both types of couplings the long-distance pairing correlations are enhanced. Near quarter-filling, this effect is much larger for the splitting of a pair in electrons which go to the two neighboring fermionic chains than for a pair hopping process. It is argued that the pairing enhancement is a result of the nearest-neighbor Coulomb repulsion which tunes the competition between pairing and charge ordering.

η -pairing in correlated fermion models with spin-orbit coupling

Li Kai

The authors study the $\ensuremath{\eta}$-pairing phenomenon in correlated fermion models with spin-orbit coupling. Spin-orbit coupled systems are usually thought to possess no continuous symmetries, except the conventional U(1) particle-number symmetry. The $\ensuremath{\eta}$-pairing reveals an exact SU(2) pseudospin symmetry in a broad class of spin-orbit coupled Hubbard models. Furthermore, the authors construct an exactly solvable interacting Dirac-semimetal model that exhibits an exact pseudospin symmetry with fine-tuned parameters. This model hosts $\ensuremath{\eta}$-pairing and charge density wave ground states, which meet at an exactly solvable multicritical line.

Self-Consistent Treatment of the Pairing Plus Quadrupole Force in the Nilsson Plus BCS Model and in the Interacting Boson Model

Daniel R. Bes, Ricardo A. Broglia, Enrico Maglione +1 more

Variational calculations within the pairing plus quadrupole model are carried out for a set of particles moving in a single j -shell and for values of the coupling constants giving rise to the main features of strongly deformed nuclei. Two calculations are carried out and the corresponding results compared. In the first, particles are allowed to align in the mean field (particle aligned model). In the second, pairs of particles coupled to angular momentum λ = 0 and λ = 2 align themselves in the average field (pair aligned model). Although many features of the results are qualitatively similar, even for well deformed systems, there are important quantitative differences. In particular, the single-particle occupancies predicted by the pair aligned model display a diffusivity around the Fermi surface (effective pairing gap) which is ∼ 1.7 times larger than that predicted by the particle aligned model. The quadrupole moment predicted by the pair aligned model at maximum deformation is ∼ 1.4 smaller than that predicted by the particle aligned model. The pair aligned model and the particle aligned model thus describe two many-body systems which are rather different. In the first pairing correlations are as important as quadrupole correlations while in the second the quadrupole deformation plays the dominant role. The effect of allowing pairs of particles to couple to angular momenta λ > 2 is found to be essential to achieve quantitative agreement between the two models.
