Generalized multipartite entropic uncertainty relations: theory and experiment

Zhaoan Wang, Bo-Fu Xie, Fei Ming +9 more

Abstract Entropic uncertainty relation (EUR) plays a vital role in quantum information theories by demonstrating the intrinsic uncertainty of nature from the information-theoretic perspective. A tighter lower bound for uncertainty relations facilitates more accurate predictions of measurement outcomes and more robust quantum information processing. However, meaningful EURs in multipartite scenarios are yet to be identified. In this study, we derived a generalized EUR (GEUR) for the measurement of multiple observables in arbitrary many-body systems. The corresponding GEUR bound is shown to be tighter than Renes--Boileau \textit{et al.}'s bound when applied in a tripartite scenario. We experimentally tested the GEUR with a four-photon entangled state in an optical platform. We demonstrated that GEUR provides a tighter lower bound of the quantum-secret-key rate, which can readily accelerate practical quantum key distribution protocols. By providing a close peek at the nature of uncertainty, our results may find broad applications in the security analysis of quantum cryptography.

Quantum memory assisted entropic uncertainty relation as a signature of quantum phase transition in the spin XXZ model

Cheng‐Cheng Liu, Ze-Wei Sun, Xiao‐Gang Fan +4 more

Uncertainty principle establishes a remarkable lower bound to predict the measured outcome of two non-commuting observables. In this paper, based on the quantum renormalization-group method, we study the relation between quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation (QMA-EUR) and quantum phase transition (QPT) in the spin XXZ model. The results shows that the entropic uncertainty and the lower bound have similar traits. In addition, we propose two schemes, one is based on quantum discord and classical correlation, the other Holevo quantity and mutual information, both can tighten the bound of EUR in the presence of quantum memory. The tighter the entropy uncertainty relationship is, the higher the accuracy of the predicted results will be. Moreover, we can obtain the optimal lower bound with the help of Holevo quantity and mutual information, which have the best optimization effect in this model. Additionally, we study QPT by virtue of EUR and after a certain number of iterations, finding that the value of QMA-EUR of the whole block-block state can form two saturated values, which are related to two different phases: spin-fluid phase and Néel phase. Afterwards, we discover that the QMA-EUR of the block-block state obeys the nonanalytic and scaling properties with entropic uncertainty relation exponent associated with correlation length. Our findings show that QMA-EUR deserves to be used as an effective tool in reflecting quantum criticality for more quantum many-body systems and may also shed light on many applications in quantum physics including the quantum key distribution, the detection of QPT and the evaluation of the capacity of quantum computation in critical systems.

Better Heisenberg Limits, Coherence Bounds, and Energy-Time Tradeoffs via Quantum Rényi Information

Michael J. W. Hall

An uncertainty relation for the Rényi entropies of conjugate quantum observables is used to obtain a strong Heisenberg limit of the form RMSE≥f(α)/(⟨N⟩+12), bounding the root mean square error of any estimate of a random optical phase shift in terms of average photon number, where f(α) is maximised for non-Shannon entropies. Related simple yet strong uncertainty relations linking phase uncertainty to the photon number distribution, such as ΔΦ≥maxnpn, are also obtained. These results are significantly strengthened via upper and lower bounds on the Rényi mutual information of quantum communication channels, related to asymmetry and convolution, and applied to the estimation (with prior information) of unitary shift parameters such as rotation angle and time, and to obtain strong bounds on measures of coherence. Sharper Rényi entropic uncertainty relations are also obtained, including time-energy uncertainty relations for Hamiltonians with discrete spectra. In the latter case almost-periodic Rényi entropies are introduced for nonperiodic systems.
