Abstract

In this paper, we introduced a system of coherent optical detection with homodyne, which implementing coherent optical communication, our own design based on the principle of coherent optical communication. IN the system, PCI6111E was useed as a data acquisition(DAQ) module. Alice and Bob’s control procedure by their computers under the LabVIEW. The synchronous detection and DAQ were carried out on the system. The signals were processed, displayed and measured. The Experimental results show that by light-synchronization and LabVIEW procedure control, each function module work together in cooperation, include Alice’s acousto-optic modulator and electro-optical modulator, Bob’s data acquisition and phase adjustment by PZT. The coherent optical information could be transitted by Alice and real-time demodulated by Bob.

Continuous Variable Phase Detection System Based on LabVIEW

周武林 ZHOU Wu-lin, 黄春晖 HUANG Chun-hui

A new continuous variable phase detection platform was built. In the proposed platform,electro-optic modulator was used as the transmitter to produce continuous phase shift, homodyne detection circuit was used as the receiver to measure the phase of the light field, and high performance NI data acquisition card PCI6111E was used to control the entire system. The LabVIEW program technologies, including PID control,DAQmx data acquisition and triangle fit, which can reduce system development time, were used to improve the programming efficiency. The feasibility of the continuous variable phase detection system was validated by Jones matrix theory and experiments, which shows the cosine relation between the output voltage of homodyne detection and the input voltage of phase modulator. The new scheme provides a new approach for continuous variable quantum key distribution.

Single Light Beam Coherent Optical Communication with Stokes Parameters

Chunhui Huang

A new mode of coherent optical communication for QKD was proposed in this paper, there are two quadrature Stokes parameters, one is used as observed physical quantity, the other as the carrier wave. The EOM of 45 of azimuth is changed by continuously rotating the HWP, which indirectly complete the linear modulation of 2 S and 3 S parameters. The receiver adopts the Q-Q-H wave plate rotation mode to select the measured 2 S or 3 S . The detection system is built up in combination with LabVIEW to implement the signal demodulation. The results shown that the scheme is feasible.

Phase‐Locked Homodyne Measurement of Quasiprobability Q Function and Detection of Information‐Carrying Weak‐Coherent States

E. García, Francisco Javier Mendieta, Josué Aarón López-Leyva +3 more

ABSTRACT We present an eight‐port homodyne receiver implemented in free space technology for detection of weak coherent states that carry binary information. For transmitted power economy, we use suppressed‐carrier modulation, therefore, we have implemented an optical Costas‐loop‐type carrier synchronizer. We obtain the quasiprobability Q function from the in‐phase and quadrature observables that are simultaneously measured. Statistical results for the quadrature components are presented. We perform measurements for the bit error rate and the mutual information between transmitter–receiver. The results show that the proposed setup is suitable in quantum communications and continuous variable quantum key distribution systems. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we report an experimental implementation of quantum noise protected data cipher system using weak coherent light field based on an all-fiber dual unbalance beam Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The secure communication can be realized with a 450kb/s modulation rate over 27 km of optical fiber.

Coherent photodetection with applications in quantum communications and cryptography

Francisco Javier Mendieta, A. Arvizu, Ramón Muraoka-Espíritu +2 more

We present an application of coherent homodyne detection to the problem of low photon number communications and cryptography. As the coherent demodulation of an optical field requires the measurement of its (non commutating) inphase and quadrature components, we present the structure and operation of an 8-port optical hybrid comprising 2 balanced homodyne detection structures, for the simultaneous measurement of the 2 quadratures. We analyze this receiver operating with a strong local oscillator field, when the received field is in weak coherent states, with digital phase modulation: we obtain the homodyne statistics and the uncertainty product in the presence of vacuum noises from the input signal port and unused ports and discuss the increase in uncertainty due to the simultaneous measurements of the quadratures. We obtain the signal to noise ratio as well of the bit error rate performance for binary phase shift keying and discuss the departure from the standard quantum limit.

A laser light source control system for continuous variable quantum key distribution

S.J. Zhang, H. Liang

Compared with discrete variable quantum key distribution, continuous variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) has the advantages of low cost, good stability, and high channel capacity, in addition to unconditional security and detectability for wiretapping. The basis of CVQKD system operation is the realization of loading information into photon quantum states. In this paper, a laser light source control system has realized the control and adjustment of the photon quantum states and completed the encoding of quantum states. In order to generate synchronous optical signals, FPGA, multi-channel DAC and micro power ADC are used to control the source of the synchronous optical laser. The control and modulation of multiple optical components are realized based on FPGA, multiple 16-bit 1.0 GSPS DACs and high-performance operational amplifiers. The electronic test results show that the system implements the control and adjustment functions of lasers, amplitude modulator, phase modulators, variable optical attenuators, polarization controllers, as well as detection of synchronized light. The performance of the laser light source control system fully meets the requirements of the CVQKD system.
