FIRST-ORDER APPROXIMATION OF THE NUMBER-PROJECTED SO(2N) TAMM-DANCOFF EQUATION AND ITS REDUCTION BY THE SCHUR FUNCTION

Abstract

First-order approximation of the number-projected (NP) SO(2N) Tamm-Dancoff (TD) equation is developed to describe ground and excited states of superconducting fermion systems. We start from an NP Hartree-Bogoliubov (HB) wave function. The NP SO(2N) TD expansion is generated by quasi-particle pair excitations from the degenerate geminals in the number-projected HB wave function. The Schrödinger equation is cast into the NP SO(2N) TD equation by the variation principle. We approximate it up to first order. This approximate equation is reduced to a simpler form by the Schur function of group characters which has a close connection with the soliton theory on the group manifold.

A New Tamm-Dancoff Method Based on the SO (2N+1) Regular Representation of Fermion Many-Body Systems

Hideo Fukutome

A new Tamm-Dancoff method is developed on the basis of the SO(2N + 1) regular representation formalism of Fermion many-body systems. The Schrodinger equation in the SO(2N + 1) generator coordinate representation is decomposed into symmetry subspaces by means of a Peierls-Yoccoz, projection procedure. The decomposed Schrödinger equation is transformed to a quasi-particle frame by a transformation of the generator coordinate and expanded by the symmetry projected Tamm-Dancoff bases. The Tamm-Danco[f equation and wave function thus obtained satisfy all symmetry requirements at every order of the expansion. The first order Tamm-Dancoff wave function is neither an independent particle nor quasi-particle approximation but represents Bose condensed Fermion pairs (and an unpaired particle) performing a coherent motion. The higher order terms represent fluctuations of Fermion pairs (and the unpaired particle) from the Bose condensate.

Modified non-Euclidean transformation on the SO(2N+2) U(N+1) Grassmannian and SO(2N + 1) random phase approximation for unified description of Bose and Fermi type collective excitations

Seiya Nishiyama, João da Providência

In a slight different way from the previous one, we propose a modified non-Euclidean transformation on the [Formula: see text] Grassmannian which gives the projected [Formula: see text] Tamm–Dancoff equation. We derive a classical time-dependent (TD) [Formula: see text] Lagrangian which, through the Euler–Lagrange equation of motion for [Formula: see text] coset variables, brings another form of the previous extended-TD Hartree–Bogoliubov (HB) equation. The [Formula: see text] random phase approximation (RPA) is derived using Dyson representation for paired and unpaired operators. In the [Formula: see text] HB case, one boson and two boson excited states are realized. We, however, stress non-existence of a higher RPA vacuum. An integrable system is given by a geometrical concept of zero-curvature, i.e. integrability condition of connection on the corresponding Lie group. From the group theoretical viewpoint, we show the existence of a symplectic two-form [Formula: see text].

Group-theoretical deduction of a dyadic Tamm–Dancoff equation by using a matrix-valued generator coordinate

Seiya Nishiyama, Hiroyuki Morita, Hiromasa Ohnishi

The traditional Tamm–Dancoff (TD) method is one of the standard procedures for solving the Schrödinger equation of fermion many-body systems. However, it meets a serious difficulty when an instability occurs in the symmetry-adapted ground state of the independent particle approximation (IPA) and when the stable IPA ground state becomes of broken symmetry. If one uses the stable but broken symmetry IPA ground state as the starting approximation, TD wave functions also become of broken symmetry. On the contrary, if we start from a symmetry-adapted but unstable wave function, the convergence of the TD expansion becomes bad. Thus, the requirements of symmetry and rapid convergence are not in general compatible in the conventional TD expansion of the systems with strong collective correlations. Along the same line as Fukutome's, we give a group-theoretical deduction of a U ( n ) dyadic TD equation by using a matrix-valued generator coordinate.

A NEW DESCRIPTION OF MOTION OF THE FERMIONIC SO(2N+2) TOP IN THE CLASSICAL LIMIT UNDER THE QUASI-ANTICOMMUTATION RELATION APPROXIMATION

SEIYA NISHIYAMA, JOÃO DA PROVIDÊNCIA, CONSTANÇA PROVIDÊNCIA

-1 The boson images of fermion SO(2N+1) Lie operators have been given together with those of SO(2N+2) ones. The SO(2N+1) Lie operators are generators of rotation in the (2N+1)-dimensional Euclidean space (N: number of single-particle states of the fermions). The images of fermion annihilation–creation operators must satisfy the canonical anticommutation relations, when they operate on a spinor subspace. In the regular representation space we use a boson Hamiltonian with Lagrange multipliers to select out the spinor subspace. Based on these facts, a new description of a fermionic SO(2N+2) top is proposed. From the Heisenberg equations of motions for the boson operators, we get the SO(2N+1) self-consistent field (SCF) Hartree–Bogoliubov (HB) equation for the classical stationary motion of the fermion top. Decomposing an SO(2N+1) matrix into matrices describing paired and unpaired modes of fermions, we obtain a new form of the SO(2N+1) SCF equation with respect to the paired-mode amplitudes. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the new description based on the bosonization theory, the extended HB eigenvalue equation is applied to a superconducting toy-model which consists of a particle–hole plus BCS-type interaction. It is solved to reach an interesting and exciting solution which is not found in the traditional HB eigenvalue equation due to the unpaired-made effects. To complete the new description, the Lagrange multipliers must be determined in the classical limit. For this aim a quasi-anticommutation relation approximation is proposed. Only if a certain relation between an SO(2N+1) parameter z and the N is satisfied, unknown parameters K and l in the Lagrange multipliers can be determined without any inconsistency.

The Theory of Superconductivity in the Tamm-Dancoff Approximation

B. P. Nigam

The Tamm-Dancoff approximation is applied to the interaction Hamiltonian used by Bogoliubov in his theory of superconductivity. It is shown that (i) the requirement that there is no virtual production of a single pair of electron and hole without phonons, or (ii) the electron-phonon coupling parameter tends to zero, leads to essentially the same compensating equation as obtained by Bogoliubov.

$\frac{{\rm SO}(2N)}{U(N)}$ Riccati–Hartree–Bogoliubov equation based on the SO (2N) Lie algebra of the fermion operators

Seiya Nishiyama, João da Providência

In this paper we present the induced representation of SO (2N) canonical transformation group and introduce [Formula: see text] coset variables. We give a derivation of the time-dependent Hartree–Bogoliubov (TDHB) equation on the Kähler coset space [Formula: see text] from the Euler–Lagrange equation of motion for the coset variables. The TDHB wave function represents the TD behavior of Bose condensate of fermion pairs. It is a good approximation for the ground state of the fermion system with a pairing interaction, producing the spontaneous Bose condensation. To describe the classical motion on the coset manifold, we start from the local equation of motion. This equation becomes a Riccati-type equation. After giving a simple two-level model and a solution for a coset variable, we can get successfully a general solution of time-dependent Riccati–Hartree–Bogoliubov equation for the coset variables. We obtain the Harish-Chandra decomposition for the SO (2N) matrix based on the nonlinear Möbius transformation together with the geodesic flow on the manifold.
