Mechanism of Separate Neutron and Proton Excitations in Interacting Neutron and Proton Boson Model and 168 Er Spectrum

Abstract

We study the interacting neutron and proton boson model (IBM2) model without the assumption of the maxium F-spin truncation. Then we make a complete IBM2 calculation of the spectrum and E2 transitions to the 168 Er nucleus. Also from our simple condensate wavefunctions, we investigate a new mechanism of separate excitations of neutron and proton boson degrees.

Phase Diagram of the Proton-Neutron Interacting Boson Model

J. M. Arias, J. E. García-Ramos, J. Dukelsky

We study the phase diagram of the proton-neutron interacting boson model with special emphasis on the phase transitions leading to triaxial phases. The existence of a new critical point between spherical and triaxial shapes is reported.

Model calculations using boson mappings

P. Navrátil, J. Dobe

The shell-model fermion problem for systems of four protons and four neutrons in single-j shells is transformed into a boson problem using the generalized Dyson boson mapping. Exact boson calculations are performed. The spectrum of physical and nonphysical boson states and the effect of truncation in the boson space are studied. The necessity of transformation from the Dyson boson description to the seniority boson description is demonstrated within the truncated space.

Microscopic Foundations of the Interacting Boson Model from the Shell-Model Point of View

Naotaka Yoshinaga, T. Mizusaki, Akito Arima +1 more

The validity of the essential ingredients of the microscopic formulation of the interacting boson model: (i) truncation of the shell-model or fermion space and (ii) the procedures for mapping the truncated fermion space on to the boson space, is tested over various (spherical, deformed and transitional) regions both in the simplistic single j-shell, identical boson sys tems and the more realistic multi j-shell, proton-neutron systems depending on the feasibility of such calculations. In the situations where the truncation and mapping procedures fail to reproduce the exact shell-model results, it is demonstrated that renormalization and higher order mapping procedures cure the associated problems, respectively and provide excellent agreements. In addition, a Hamiltonian of the interacting boson-fermion model which is relevant for a study of odd mass nuclei is derived for a single j-shell case in the shell-model framework, which yields results identical to those in the shell-model for the monopole pairing interaction.

Proton-neutron entanglement in the nuclear shell model

Calvin W. Johnson, Oliver C. Gorton

Abstract We compute the proton-neutron entanglement entropy in the interacting nuclear shell model for a variety of nuclides and interactions. Some results make intuitive sense, for example, that the shell structure, as governed by single-particle and monopole energies, strongly affects the energetically available space and thus the entanglement entropy. We also find a surprising result: that the entanglement entropy at low excitation energy tends to decrease for nuclides when N ≠ Z. While we provide evidence this arises from the physical nuclear force by contrasting with random two-body interactions which shows no such decrease, the exact mechanism is unclear. Nonetheless, the low entanglement suggests that in models of neutron-rich nuclides, the coupling between protons and neutrons may be less computationally demanding than one might otherwise expect.

Phase Structure of the Two-Fluid Proton-Neutron System

M. A. Caprio, FRANCESCO IACHELLO

The phase structure of a two-fluid bosonic system is investigated. The proton-neutron interacting boson model possesses a rich phase structure involving three control parameters and multiple order parameters. The surfaces of quantum phase transition between spherical, axially symmetric deformed, and SU(*)(pinu)(3) triaxial phases are determined.
