Exact diagonalization study of optical conductivity in the two-dimensional Hubbard model

Takami Tohyama, Y. Inoue, K. Tsutsui +1 more

The optical conductivity $\ensuremath{\sigma}(\ensuremath{\omega})$ in the two-dimensional Hubbard model is examined by applying the exact diagonalization technique to small square clusters with periodic boundary conditions up to $\sqrt{20}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\sqrt{20}$ sites. Spectral-weight distributions at half-filling and their doping dependence in the 20-site cluster are found to be similar to those in a $\sqrt{18}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\sqrt{18}$ cluster, but different from $4\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}4$ results. The results for the 20-site cluster enable us to perform a systematic study of the doping dependence of the spectral-weight transfer from the region of the Mott-gap excitation to lower-energy regions. We discuss the dependence of the Drude weight and the effective carrier number on the electron density at a large on-site Coulomb interaction.

Cluster-size dependence in cellular dynamical mean-field theory

志朗 酒井, Giorgio Sangiovanni, Marcello Civelli +3 more

We examine the cluster-size dependence of the cellular dynamical mean-field theory (CDMFT) applied to the two-dimensional Hubbard model. Employing the continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo method as the solver for the effective cluster model, we obtain CDMFT solutions for 4-, 8-, 12-, and 16-site clusters at a low temperature. Comparing various periodization schemes, which are used to construct the infinite-lattice quantities from the cluster results, we find that the cumulant periodization yields the fastest convergence for the hole-doped Mott insulator where the most severe size dependence is expected. We also find that the convergence is much faster around $(0,0)$ and $(\frac{\ensuremath{\pi}}{2},\frac{\ensuremath{\pi}}{2})$ than around $(\ensuremath{\pi},0)$ and $(\ensuremath{\pi},\ensuremath{\pi})$. The cumulant-periodized self-energy seems to be close to its thermodynamic limit already for a 16-site cluster in the range of parameters studied. The 4-site results remarkably agree well with the 16-site results, indicating that the previous studies based on the 4-site cluster capture the essence of the physics of doped Mott insulators.

Entanglement structure of the Hubbard model in momentum space

G. Ehlers, Jenő Sólyom, Örs Legeza +1 more

We study the properties of the ground states of the one- and two-dimensional Hubbard models at half-filling and moderate doping using entanglement-based measures, which we calculate numerically using the momentum-space density matrix renormalization group (DMRG). In particular, we investigate quantities such as the single-site entropy and two-site mutual information of single-particle momentum states as well as the behavior of the bipartite subsystem entropy for partitions in momentum space. The distribution of these quantities in momentum space gives insight into the fundamental nature of the ground state, insight that can be used to make contact with weak-coupling-based analytic approaches and to optimize numerical methods, the momentum-space DMRG in particular. We study the site and subsystem entropies as a function of interaction strength $U$ and system size. In both the one- and two-dimensional cases, we find that the subsystem entropy scales proportionally to ${U}^{2}$ for weak $U$ and proportionally to volume. Nevertheless, the optimized momentum-space DMRG can provide variationally accurate results for the two-dimensional Hubbard model at weak coupling for moderate system sizes.
