Abstract

The processes of cooperative luminescence and superfluorescence (SF) in nanoclusters, which consist of a few neighbor particles, interacting with each other by exchange or/and electrostatic forces, are investigated theoretically. It is shown that there are two types of cooperative SF depending on the ratio between the linear size of a nanocluster and cooperative interaction range. The experiments on cooperative luminescence in Ytterbium-doped silica fibers are analyzed. It is shown that the intensity of cooperative SF in such a system should be proportional to the forth degree of Ytterbium concentration.

Multipole claster superfluorescence: the generalized Dicke model

А. А. Калачев, Самарцев Виталий Владимирович

The peculiarities of superfluorescence in systems consisting of a few neighbor particles (clusters), when exchange or/and electrostatic multipole interactions between particles become significant, are investigated theoretically. It is shown that interaction between particles in the cluster leads to superpuassonian statistics of emitted photons and the intensity I of quadrupole superfluorescence on the double frequency depends on the number N of active centers as I~Nα, where α> 2. In particular, α = 3 , when N >> 1. Possible schemes of cluster construction in nuclei systems are considered and prospects of observation of multipole gamma superfluorescence are discussed.

Cooperative luminescence and absorption in Ytterbium-doped silica fiber and the fiber nonlinear transmission coefficient at λ=980 nm with a regard to the Ytterbium ion-pairs’ effect

Alexander V. Kir’yanov, Yuri O. Barmenkov, I. Lucio-Martinez +2 more

An experimental and theoretical investigation of the nonlinear transmission coefficient in a set of Ytterbium-doped silica fibers (YFs) with various concentrations of Yb(3+) ions at continuous-wave 980-nm pumping is reported. An analysis of the obtained experimental data shows that YF transmission coefficient is notably affected by the presence of Yb(3+) - Yb(3+) ion-pairs in the fibers, especially in heavily-doped ones. The last fact is confirmed by the study of the cooperative luminescence and absorption effects in the fibers, where a detailed inspection of their dependence on Yb3+ concentration is presented. The pairs' effect is shown to seriously modify both the nonlinear character of YF transmission coefficient at lambda = 980 nm and Yb(3+) excited-state relaxation. A modeling of the experimental data is performed, which allows to find the coefficients addressing the pairs' effect in each of YFs under study and, as a result, to fit the experimentally measured dependences of YF transmission coefficient on pump power, fiber length, and Yb(3+) concentration.

Blue and green cooperative luminescence of highly Yb-doped optical fiber

Blue luminescence emitted from ytterbium-doped fiber under infrared excitation was observed, along with well-known green cooperated luminescence. We suggest blue luminescence is due to higher-order cooperated luminescence related three excited ytterbium ions.

We reply to the comment [R. Paschotta and A.C. Tropper, Opt. Express, to be published (2006)] on our recent work reporting a study of the cooperative absorption and emission in heavily-doped Ytterbium silica fibers and mechanisms of the fiber nonlinear transmission coefficient reduction due to the Ytterbium ion-pairs' effect [A.V. Kir'yanov et al., Opt. Express, 14 (9), 3981 (2006)]. We provide some additional evidences for that our work hypotheses and conclusions.
