Efficient generation of universal two-dimensional cluster states with hybrid systems

Qing Lin, Bing He

We present a scheme to generate any two-dimensional cluster state efficiently. The number of the basic gate (entangler) operations is on the order of the entanglement bonds of a cluster state. This deterministic scheme, which demands few ancilla resources and no quantum memory, is suitable for large-scale quantum computation.

Reduce, reuse, recycle for robust cluster-state generation

Dominic C. Horsman, Katherine L. Brown, William J. Munro +1 more

Efficient generation of cluster states is crucial for engineering large-scale measurement-based quantum computers. Hybrid matter-optical systems offer a robust, scalable path to this goal. Such systems have an ancilla which acts as a bus connecting the qubits. We show that by generating the cluster in smaller sections of interlocking bricks, reusing one ancilla per brick, the cluster can be produced with maximal efficiency, requiring fewer than half the operations compared with no bus reuse. By reducing the time required to prepare sections of the cluster, bus reuse more than doubles the size of the computational workspace that can be used before decoherence effects dominate. A row of buses in parallel provides fully scalable cluster-state generation requiring only 20 controlled-phase gates per bus use.

Error-detected N-photon cluster state generation based on the controlled-phase gate using a quantum dot in an optical microcavity

Lei-Xia Liang, Yanyan Zheng, Yuan‐Xia Zhang +1 more

We propose a scheme for error-detected generation of an N -photon cluster state with a quantum dot (QD) embedded in a single-sided optical microcavity (QD-cavity system). The basic structure of this scheme is an error-detected controlled-phase (C-phase) gate on the hybrid electron-photon system. In this scheme, the fidelity of N -photon cluster state generation can be reached unity even if low- Q cavity and cavity leakage are considered. By using error detecting, the generation of an N -photon cluster state can be performed by repeating until success, which also leads to a high success probability, compared with other schemes assisted by the QD-cavity system. The error-detected generation of an N -photon cluster state in the highly controllable way may benefit on the quantum network in the future.
