Abstract

This paper presents a construction algorithm for the short block irregular LDPC codes. By applying a magic square theorem as a part of the matrix construction, a newly developed algorithm, the so-called Magic Square Based Algorithm (MSBA), is obtained. The modified array codes are focused on in this study since the reduction of 1s can lead to simple encoding and decoding schemes. Simulation results based on AWGN channels show that with the code rate of 0.8 and SNR = 5 dB, the BER of 10-7can be obtained whilst the number of decoding iteration is relatively low.

A parity check matrix design for Irregular LDPC codes with 2K block length

Chutima Prasartkaew, Somsak Choomchuay

This paper outlines the work on another design of a parity check matrix for Irregular LDPC codes. The design is based on the pattern of Modified Array and Interleaved Modified Array LDPC codes. The application of matrix transposition Quasi-cyclic shifting has resulted in the reduction of 1's. The designed matrix is suitable for codes with short and medium block lengths. The code rate of 0.56 at the BER of 10-4is obtained.

A random construction of LDPC codes using a sub-optimal search algorithm

Seif Shebl, Nawal Ahmed El-Fishawy, Atef Abou Elazm +1 more

In this paper, a method for constructing Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes of good performance in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) using a computer search algorithm is presented. First, LDPC codes and encoding along with its Tanner graph representation is described. Then, a detailed description of the proposed construction algorithm is given. A Modified Shortest-Path (MSP) Algorithm of lower complexity is applied to obtain a code graph of the desired structure. The proposed algorithm works directly on the parity-check matrix of the LDPC code. The parity-check matrix of the code is constructed column by column subject to the bit-degree and girth constraints. Using the proposed algorithm, both regular and irregular LDPC codes have been constructed. Furthermore, not only have the girth been improved but also the rate of LDPC codes. Finally, by simulation results the constructed codes were shown to perform well over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel.

Efficient Design of Structured LDPC Codes

Biwoong Chung, Joon-Sung Kim, Song Hong-Yeop

The high encoding complexity of LDPC codes can be solved by designing structured parity-check matrix. If the parity-check matrix of LDPC codes is composed of same type of blocks, decoder implementation can be simple, this structure allow structured decoding and required memory for storing the parity-check matrix can be reduced largely. In this paper, we propose a construction algorithm for short block length structured LDPC codes based on girth condition, PEG algorithm and variable node connectivity. The code designed by this algorithm shows similar performance to other codes without structured constraint in low SNR and better performance in high SNR than those by simulation

Architecture of the modified Block-Type Low-Density parity-check code decoding design

Kuang-Hao Lin, KyungHi Chang, Sheng-Dong Wu

In this paper, a combined Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) code decoding design method, called modified Block-Type LDPC (B-LDPC), for realistic LDPC coding system architectures is presented. The B-LDPC code, which is a special class of quasi-cyclic LDPC (QC-LDPC), has an efficient encoding algorithm owing to the simple structure of their parity-check matrices. A proposed distribution of irregular parity-check matrix for the modified B-LDPC is developed so that we can obtain an area-efficient decoder design, good error correction performance, and achievable architecture implementation. The modified B-LDPC code decoding utilizes the iterative min-sum algorithm (MSA) and its decoding architecture design employs the non-overlapping operations of bit node unit (BNU) and check node unit (CNU). Different block matrix sizes for parity-check matrix can be adopted so that the modified B-LDPC code decoding improves the throughput without obvious performance degradation.

Analysis of a Code Construction Method for Non-Binary Quasi-Cyclic Irregular Low Density Parity Check Decoder

M. Anbuselvi, P. Saravanan, S. Joseph Gladwin

Non-binary LDPC codes is a class of linear block code outperform in the short and moderate block length, closer to Shannon's limit. The numerical strength of the decoder is proportional to the sparsity of the parity check matrix. A Hierarchically Diagonal Parity Check Matrix (HDPCM) with better sparseness is constructed to optimize the computation complexity and decoding performance. The decoder based on the proposed matrix using FFT-SP decoding algorithm is analyzed, with different modulation schemes and channel environment. The positive impact of the constructed matrix is elaborated, concludes with the suitability of the HDPCM structure in AWGN channel and BPSK modulation environment.
