Abstract

We examine in detail the cyclic adiabatic population transfer methods for five-level diagrams in order to construct a four-bit universal reversible logic gate. We show that under certain conditions and sequence of turning on and off the laser pulses a five-level system may be reduced to an effective Λ-diagram.

All-optical reversible logic gate via adiabatic population transfer

Grigoryan, G., V. O. Chaltykyan, E. A. Gazazyan +2 more

The Toffoli gate is an essential logic element, which permits implementation of a reversible processor. It is of relevance both for classical as well as quantum logics. We propose and theoretically study all-optical implementations of three-bit and four-bit Toffoli gates by application of adiabatic population transfer techniques. For a three-bit Toffoli gate we use variants of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) processes in a $Λ$-type level scheme, driven by two laser pulses at sufficiently large detunings. For the implementation of a four-bit Toffoli gate, we apply reversible adiabatic population transfer in five-level quantum systems, interacting with three laser pulses. We demonstrate correct all-optical implementation of the truth table of three-bit and four-bit Toffoli gates. Moreover, we derive conditions for adiabatic evolution of the population dynamics and robust operation of the gates.

Implementation of all-optical Toffoli gate in Λ-systems

E. A. Gazazyan, G. G. Grigoryan, V. O. Chaltykyan +1 more

An optical Toffoli gate is the essential logical element, which permits the implementation of a reversible optical processor. We propose a simple realization of such a gate in films of crystals doped with rare-earth ions. The proposed scheme is based on adiabatic population transfer in a Λ-system by means of counterintuitive and intuitive sequences of short laser pulses. We also discuss possibilities for experimental realization of the proposed gate.

Results on two-bit gate design for quantum computers

David Peter Divincenzo, John A. Smolin

We present numerical results which show how two-bit logic gates can be used in the design of a quantum computer. We show that the Toffoli gate, which is a universal gate for all classical reversible computation, can be implemented using a particular sequence of exactly five two-bit gates. An arbitrary three-bit unitary gate, which can be used to build up any arbitrary quantum computation, can be implemented exactly with six two-bit gates. The ease of implementation of any particular quantum operation is dependent upon a very non-classical feature of the operation, its exact quantum phase factor.

Four-level realisation of 3-qubit reversible functions

Guowu Yang, Xiaoyu Song B, Marek A. Perkowski +3 more

Two questions have been addressed here: how many logic levels are necessary to synthesise a specific instance of a reversible circuit, and how much better to have large gate libraries, and what gates should be required in libraries. Group theory is applied to 3-bit reversible gate synthesis to create a library useful in hierarchical design. It has been shown that arbitrary 3-bit reversible circuit can be synthesised with four-logic levels, using this new gate library. The respective universal library for the four-level synthesis is constructed and optimised it on the level of nuclear magnetic resonance pulses. A very fast algorithm to synthesise arbitrary 3-bit reversible function to gates from our library is also presented. The algorithm demonstrates dramatic speed benefit and results in a maximum of four-level circuit for arbitrary 3-bit reversible function. The gates are optimised on the level of pulses to decrease their cost and allow for objective comparison with standard CNOT, NOT, Toffoli gates (CNT) circuits. This library guarantees a four-level circuit for any 3-qubit reversible function and is also intended to be used in a hierarchical design of larger circuits.

Realization of the Programmable Logical Atomic Gate

Artur Aleksanyan, E. A. Gazazyan

The simple realization of a three-bit programmable atomic gate on a five-level atom is demonstrated. The proposed scheme is based on an adiabatic transfer of the populations of atomic levels in the M-system. A detailed analysis of the numerical solution of nonstationary equations for the density matrix of the five-level system is carried out.
