Non-Equilibrium Critical Dynamics of the Kinetic Baxter Model

Abstract

The non-equilibrium critical dynamics of the Baxter model is studied through Monte Carlo simulations. The single-spin-flip stochastic dynamics is introduced on the basis of the formulation of the model as an Ising-type model on the square lattice with next-nearest-neighbor and four-spin interactions. At several points on the critical line, the dynamic critical exponent z and the critical exponent \bar λ c , which characterizes the non-equilibrium critical relaxation, are estimated for the two order parameters of the model, the magnetization and the polarization. For both order parameters, the estimated \bar λ c varies systematically along the critical line. On the other hand, the estimated z is almost constant. This suggests that while the exponent z is universal, the exponent \bar λ c is not.

Monte Carlo Investigation of Dynamic Critical Phenomena in the Two-Dimensional Kinetic Ising Model

E. Stoll, Kurt Binder, T. Schneider

Extending the Monte Carlo method to dynamic critical phenomena we investigated the time-dependent correlation functions in the two-dimensional one-spin-flip Ising model and the critical behavior of the associated relaxation times. These relaxation times are the following: ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{\Delta}T}$, characterizing the approach of the order parameter to equilibrium after a change of temperature $\ensuremath{\Delta}T$ of the system; ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}}$ and ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}}^{A}$ characterizing the slowing down of the order-parameter correlation and autocorrelation functions, respectively; ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}$ and ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}^{A}$, characterizing the slowing down of the energy correlation and autocorrelation functions; and finally ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}$, characterizing the cross-correlation function. We give estimates for the associated exponents ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{\Delta}T}\ensuremath{\approx}{\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}}\ensuremath{\approx}{\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}\ensuremath{\approx}{\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}\ensuremath{\approx}1.90\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.10$, and ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}}^{A}\ensuremath{\approx}1.60\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.10$, ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}^{A}\ensuremath{\approx}0.95\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.10$, ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}\ensuremath{\delta}\mathcal{H}}^{A}\ensuremath{\approx}0$, which are consistent with the dynamic scaling hypothesis and with exact inequalities. A detailed comparison with recent high-temperature-expansion estimates is performed, and the reliability of the Monte Carlo results is carefully analyzed.

Nonequilibrium critical dynamics of the two-dimensional Ashkin-Teller model at the Baxter line

Henrique A. Fernandes, Roberto da Silva, Álvaro A. Caparica +1 more

We investigate the short-time universal behavior of the two-dimensional Ashkin-Teller model at the Baxter line by performing time-dependent Monte Carlo simulations. First, as preparatory results, we obtain the critical parameters by searching the optimal power-law decay of the magnetization. Thus, the dynamic critical exponents θ_{m} and θ_{p}, related to the magnetic and electric order parameters, as well as the persistence exponent θ_{g}, are estimated using heat-bath Monte Carlo simulations. In addition, we estimate the dynamic exponent z and the static critical exponents β and ν for both order parameters. We propose a refined method to estimate the static exponents that considers two different averages: one that combines an internal average using several seeds with another, which is taken over temporal variations in the power laws. Moreover, we also performed the bootstrapping method for a complementary analysis. Our results show that the ratio β/ν exhibits universal behavior along the critical line corroborating the conjecture for both magnetization and polarization.

Finite-Size Scaling Approach to the Kinetic Ising Model

H. Takano

The kinetic Ising model on a square lattice is studied by means of the finite-size scaling with the help of the Monte Carlo method. The results obtained are consistent with the universality hypothesis that the value of the dynamic critical expotent is universal for certain types of transition probabilities. The present results also suggest that the dynamic critical exponents for the relaxation times of the magnetization and energy are the same. Our estimation of the dynamic critical exponent z gives that z \cong2.2 ±0.1.

Nonequilibrium spin models with Ising universal behaviour

Mário J. de Oliveira, José F. F. Mendes, M. Santos

The properties of a family of nonequilibrium spin models with up-down symmetry on a square lattice are determined by a mean-field pair approximation and by Monte Carlo simulation. The phase diagram in the parameter space displays a critical line that terminates at a first-order critical point. It is found that the critical exponents are the same as those of the equilibrium Ising model.

Critical fluctuations at a finite-time dynamical phase transition

Nalina Vadakkayil, Massimiliano Esposito, Jan Meibohm

We explore the critical properties of the recently discovered finite-time dynamical phase transition in the nonequilibrium relaxation of Ising magnets after a temperature quench. The transition is characterized by a sudden switch in the relaxation dynamics and it occurs at a sharp critical time. While previous works have focused either on mean-field interactions or on investigating the critical time, we analyze the critical fluctuations at the phase transition in the nearest-neighbor Ising model on a square lattice using Monte Carlo simulations. By means of a finite-size scaling analysis, we extract the critical exponents for the transition. In two spatial dimensions, we find that the exponents are consistent with those of the two-dimensional Ising universality class when the system is initially in the vicinity of the critical point. For initial temperatures below the critical one, however, the critical exponents differ from the Ising-exponents, indicating a distinct dynamical critical phenomenon.

Dynamic Critical Exponents of Three-Dimensional Ising Models and Two-Dimensional Three-States Potts Models

Yohsuke Murase, Nobuyasu Ito

Values of dynamic critical exponents are numerically estimated for various models with the nonequilibrium relaxation method to test the dynamic universality hypothesis. The dynamics used here are single-spin update with Metropolis-type transition probabities. The estimated values of nonequilibrium relaxation exponent of magnetization λ m (=β/ z ν) of Ising models on bcc and fcc lattices are estimated to be 0.251(3) and 0.252(3), respectively, which are consistent with the value of the model on simple-cubic lattice, 0.250(2). The dynamic critical exponents of three-states Potts models on square, honeycomb and triangular lattices are also estimated to be 2.193(5), 2.198(4), and 2.199(3), respectively. They are consistent within the error bars. It is also confirmed that Ising models with regularly modulated coupling constants on square lattice have the same dynamic critical exponents with the uniformly ferromagnetic Ising model.
