Stability properties of the two-component Bose-Einstein condensate

Patrik Öhberg

The two-component Bose-Einstein condensate is known to break its symmetry spontaneously. The stability of the symmetric solution has been investigated by solving the ground-state density profiles for different parameter regimes. We emphasize the importance of the trap geometry for the formation of the condensate.

Nonlinear Josephson-type oscillations of a driven, two-component Bose-Einstein condensate

Jonathan H. Williams, R. Walser, J. Cooper +2 more

We propose an experiment that would demonstrate nonlinear Josephson-type oscillations in the relative population of a driven, two-component Bose-Einstein condensate. An initial state is prepared in which two condensates exist in a magnetic trap, each in a different hyperfine state, where the initial populations and relative phase between condensates can be controlled within experimental uncertainty. A weak driving field is then applied, which couples the two internal states of the atom and consequently transfers atoms back and forth between condensates. We present a model of this system and investigate the effect of the mean field on the dynamical evolution.

Study of density structures of two-component Bose-Einstein condensates and its interaction with Laguerre-Gaussian Beam

Anal Bhowmik, Pradip Kumar Mondal, Sonjoy Majumder +1 more

The density profiles of two component Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) are studied across the trap using the microscopic interaction with Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beam. We consider $^{87}$Rb BEC in two hyperfine spin states as components and the wavelength of the LG beam is comparable to the atomic de-Broglie wavelength. Competitions between intra- and inter-component interactions produce interesting density structures of the ground state of BEC. Properties of the BEC components are realized from the estimation of the Rabi frequency of two photon stimulated Raman transition over the inter-coupling strengths. We demonstrate interference of vortex-antivortex in terms of inter-component interactions when both the components are subjected to appropriate Raman transitions.
