Lie structures in parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics: II. The spin-orbit coupling supersymmetrization procedure

Abstract

The spin-orbit coupling supersymmetrization procedure is considered in parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics describing oscillatorlike systems. The superposition of bosonic and parafermionic degrees of freedom is mainly studied in the cases of two and three spatial dimensions but the n-dimensional case is also determined. New Lie superalgebras and Lie parasuperalgebras are pointed out: They differ from those already obtained in connection with the standard procedure of supersymmetrization studied in Part I of this series [J. Beckers and N. Debergh, J. Math. Phys. ▪▪, ▪▪▪ (1991)].

Parastatistics, supersymmetry and parasupercoherent states

J. Beckers, N. Debergh

Coherent states are constructed in p=2-parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics in connection with the two relative para-Bose and para-Fermi sets of trilinear structure relations. They are called parasupercoherent states. Parasupersymmetric operators [such as the Hamiltonian and (two) annihilation operators] are introduced and discussed. In particular, the parasuperspectrum is determined and compared with the recent results obtained by Rubakov and Spiridonov [Mod. Phys. Lett. A 3, 1337 (1988)]. The superalgebra contents subtended by osp(2/2) and osp(3/2) are analyzed and exploited in order to get constants of motion in both contexts through parallel properties on the supersymmetric harmonic oscillator.

On Generalized Quantum Deformations and Symmetries in Quantum Mechanics

Jules Beckers

Supersymmetric and parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics are now recognized as two further parts of quantum mechanics containing a lot of new informations enlightening (solvable) physical applications. Both contents are here analysed in connection with generalized quantum deformations. In fact, the parasupersymmetric context is visited when the order of paraquantization p is limited to the first nontrivial value p = 2.

On supersymmetric harmonic oscillators and the Green–Cusson Ansätze

J. Beckers, N. Debergh

New properties on parabosonic and parafermionic Cusson’s realizations of the Green’s Anzätze are first obtained. Then paraproperties are shown to have a specific interest for our real world, where bosons and fermions have to be superposed if Nature is supersymmetric, these results being obtained on supersymmetric harmonic oscillators. In particular, from the Green–Cusson Ansätze, we construct a class of supersymmetric Hamiltonians that are more general than the ones issued from standard or spin–orbit coupling considerations. We explicitly consider the simplest (previously unknown) super-Hamiltonian constructed from paraproperties in quantum mechanics and establish its invariance Lie superalgebra.

Models for Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics

Michael Baake, R. Delbourgo, PD Jarvis

An algebraic view of supersymmetric quantum mechanics is taken, emphasising the couplings between bosonic and fermionic modes in the supercharges. A class of model Hamiltonians is introduced wherein the fermionic (bosonic) operators are canonical and the bosonic (fermionic) ones satisfy a Lie algebra (superalgebra) whose representation theory permits the complete solution of the model in principle. The kinematical symmetry of such models is also described. The examples of one and two bosonic models, with 5U(2) and 5U(3) dynamical algebras respectively, are analysed in detail.

Wigner quantization and Lie superalgebra representations

G. Regniers

In quantum mechanics, physical observables are represented by operators on a certain Hilbert space. The question of how such operators commute, has been a matter of discussion. In the standard perspective, the operators corresponding to the position and momentum of a system are assumed to satisfy the canonical commutation relations. It is known that these relations imply that the Hamilton and Heisenberg equations of motion are compatible as operator equations. However, Wigner showed that the inverse statement is not true. Therefore, it is a much weaker constraint to impose the compatibility of the equations of motion. For any physical system, this results in a set of compatibility conditions, which form the core of Wigner quantization. The key to finding operators that are subject to the compatibility conditions is provided by Lie superalgebras and their representations. Lie superalgebras can be defined as algebras generated by odd elements satisfying particular superbracket relations. Using these defining relations, Lie superalgebra generators can be found that obey the compatibility conditions. The Lie superalgebra elements act as operators on a vector space if we consider Lie superalgebra representations. Various physical systems are investigated in this thesis in the context of Wigner quantization. For each of these systems solutions are found in terms of Lie superalgebra generators, after which specific representations are examined. In such representations, the focus lies on determining particular physical properties of the system. Most of the studied systems are harmonic oscillator models. First, we examine a set-up of coupled harmonic oscillators, for which the interaction is represented by an interaction matrix. Then we focus on the angular momentum content of a $3N$-dimensional harmonic oscillator. Finally, our attention goes to two one-dimensional systems, namely the free particle and the Berry-Keating-Connes Hamiltonian. The latter of these Hamiltonians is notorious for its possible connection with the Riemann hypothesis. All of the aforementioned Hamiltonians have been extensively investigated in the context of canonical quantization, so that our results can be compared to the well-known canonical case.

Hierarchy of the parasupersymmetric Hamiltonians in quantum mechanics

Vyacheslav Pavlovich Spiridonov

The simplest parasupersymmetric model found in one-dimensional quantum mechanics is considered. It contains one bosonic and one parafermionic degree of freedom. By successive restriction of the superpotentials the author shows how the algebra of symmetry is simplified. Some discussion of the general parasupersymmetry algebras is presented.
