Saturation of Stationary Inversion States in a Three-Level Traveling-Wave Quantum Amplifier with Bistable Resonator Pumping

D. N. Makovetskii

The inversion states of a saturated three-level traveling-wave quantum paramagnetic amplifier have been investigated under conditions of bistable resonator pumping. The equations of motion for the vectorial order parameter have been obtained using adiabatic elimination of fast variables. These equations are a generalization of the scalar two-level Drummond model for the case of a three-level quantum active system. Isolated branches of the constant of inversion have been found from stationary solutions of equations for the vectorial order parameter. A analysis of bifurcations in the saturated quantum amplifier with bistable pumping has been represented with full details.

Loss and saturation in superconducting travelling-wave parametric amplifiers

Songyuan Zhao, S Withington, D J Goldie +1 more

Abstract We have developed a coupled-mode analysis framework for superconducting travelling-wave parametric amplifiers using the full Telegrapher’s equations to incorporate loss-related behaviour. Our model provides an explanation of previous experimental observations regarding loss in amplifiers, advantages of concatenating amplifiers to achieve high gains, and signal gain saturation. This work can be used to guide the design of amplifiers in terms of the choice of material systems, transmission line geometry, operating conditions, and pump strength.

Noise and Dissipation in a Circuit Quantum Electrodynamic Description of a Josephson Traveling-Wave Parametric Amplifier

Yongjie Yuan, Michael Haider, Johannes A. Russer +2 more

In this paper, we are constructing a circuit quantum electrodynamic model describing dissipative effects in a Josephson traveling-wave parametric amplifier (JTWPA). Losses and noise are treated using the quantum Langevin method. The total Hamiltonian of our model describes the coupling of the modes in a parametric four-wave-mixing scheme, as well as the interaction with the environment. Based on the Heisenberg equations of motion, we obtain the temporal evolution of the signal photon number and analyze the signal gain of the JTWPA.
