COHERENT CONTROL OF MACROSCOPIC QUANTUM TUNNELING OF SPIN-1 CONDENSATE MAGNETIZATION IN A DOUBLE-WELL POTENTIAL

We have investigated the effect of an external periodic driving to the macroscopic quantum tunneling of spin-1 condensates in a double-well potential. By manipulating the frequencies of the external magnetic fields, a rich set of phenomena can be studied, and dynamical localization and self-trapping in spin states can be realized using time-dependent magnetic field. We have shown that a relatively high-frequency field may induce a fast oscillation of the macroscopic quantum localization. The larger the periodic magnetic field frequency is, the faster oscillation of the spin condensate magnetization goes. By applying a lower-frequency field to the spin-condensate, one can find that the dynamical properties of the magnetization appears similar behaviors to the results of the modulations of a constant external magnetic field. A possible realization in experiments is also presented.

DOUBLE WELL POTENTIAL: PERTURBATION THEORY, TUNNELING, WKB (BEYOND INSTANTONS)

Alexander V. Turbiner

A simple approximate solution for the quantum-mechanical quartic oscillator V = m2x2 + gx4 in the double-well regime m2 < 0 at arbitrary g ≥ 0 is presented. It is based on a combining of perturbation theory near true minima of the potential, semi-classical approximation at large distances and a description of tunneling under the barrier. It provides 9-10 significant digits in energies and gives for wavefunctions the relative deviation in real x-space less than ≲ 10-3.

QUANTUM TUNNELING IN THE TIME PERIODIC DOUBLE WELL POTENTIAL

Vladimir I. Dubinko, Oleksandr Serhiyovych Mazmanishvili

We present the mathematical model and numerical calculation results for the tunneling of the wave function in a time-periodic double-well potential. The biquadratic potential of a double-well form is used. Based on a mathematical model of the time evolution of the wave function, a numerical algorithm has been developed and a program has been created for solving the Schrödinger equation, which describes the time evolution of the particle's wave function. As a result of numerical modeling, modulation regimes have been obtained at which tunneling took place. In a stationary double well potential, no tunneling was observed. On the contrary, in the time periodic potential, tunneling was observed, the rate of which depended on the modulation frequency. Adjusting the modulation parameters, it is possible to control the particle wave function tunneling rate.
