Kinetic equations for a nonideal quantum system

Th. Bornath, D. Kremp, W. D. Kraeft +1 more

In the framework of real-time Green's functions, the general kinetic equations are investigated in a first-order gradient expansion. Within this approximation, the problem of the reconstruction of the two-time correlation functions from the one-time Wigner function was solved. For the Wigner function, a cluster expansion is found in terms of a quasiparticle distribution function. In equilibrium, this expansion leads to the well-known generalized Beth-Uhlenbeck expression of the second virial coefficient. As a special case, the T-matrix approximation for the self-energy is investigated. The quantum kinetic equation derived thus has, besides the (Markovian) Boltzmann collision integral, additional terms due to the retardation expansion which reflect memory effects. Special interest is paid to the case that bound states exist in the system. It is shown that the bound state contribution, which can be introduced via a bilinear expansion of the two-particle T matrix, follows from the first-order retardation term in the general kinetic equation. The full Wigner function is now a sum of one function describing the unbound particles and another one for the bound state contribution. The latter two functions have to be determined from a coupled set of kinetic equations. In contrast to the quantum Boltzmann equation, energy and density of a nonideal system are conserved. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Kinetics of low-temperature gas of hydrogen-like atoms in an external electromagnetic field

Anatolij G. Zagorodny, Yu. V. Slyusarenko, S.N. Shulga

A microscopic approach for the construction of the kinetic theory of low-temperature hydrogen-like gases in an external electromagnetic field was developed. The approach is based on the formulation of secondary quantization in the presence of bound states of particles. It is suggested that the bound state (for example, a hydrogen-like atom of alkali metal) is formed by two charged fermions of different sorts — the valence electron and the ion core. The reduced description of relaxation processes establishes the basis for the formulation of the kinetic equations. Within the developed theoretical framework, the system of kinetic equations for Wigner’s distribution functions of free fermions of both sorts and their bound states, hydrogen-like atoms, is developed accounting for an external and self-consistent (intermediate) fields acting on the system. The obtained equations of motion for Wigner’s distribution functions serve as a basis for analyzing non-equilibrium effects and phenomena related to the influence of an external electromagnetic field on low-temperature gases of alkali metals.

Unification of Thermo Field Kinetic and Hydrodynamics Approaches in the Theory of Dense Quantum–Field Systems

М. В. Токарчук, Petro A. Hlushak

A formulation of nonequilibrium thermo-field dynamics has been performed using the nonequilibrium statistical operator method by D.N. Zubarev. Generalized transfer equations for a consistent description of the kinetics and hydrodynamics of the dense quantum field system with strongly-bound states are derived.
