Effect of the initiating-pulse area on induced superradiance

Abstract

The formation of reflected and transmitted waves in induced superradiance is studied. It is shown that the relationship between reflected and transmitted waves periodically varies with increasing initiating-pulse area. The effect is attributed to the periodic cooperative exchange between forward and backward waves in a sample and its termination at the moment corresponding to the pulse delay time.

Regime of total predominance of the transmitted wave in induced superradiance

A. A. Bogdanov, А. И. Зайцев

Generation of reflected and transmitted waves in induced superradiance is studied. It is shown that an increase in the initiating pulse area or the system length can inhibit the development of the periodic cooperative exchange between the forward and backward waves in the sample. In this case, the transmitted wave will predominate in the superradiance pulse.

Coherent exchange between the forward and backward waves in induced superradiance

A. A. Bogdanov, А. И. Зайцев

The generation of reflected and transmitted waves in induced superradiance is investigated. It is demonstrated that the exponential increase in the amplitude of the total field at the linear stage of the process may be accompanied by a periodic coherent exchange between the forward and backward waves in a sample. Transition to the nonlinear stage in a certain phase of this exchange determines the predominance of the transmitted or reflected wave in the pulse. The influence of the area of the initiating pulse and the sample length is considered.

Regimes of generation of transmitted and reflected waves in induced superradiance

A. A. Bogdanov, А. И. Зайцев

The generation of reflected and transmitted waves in induced superradiance is studied. The predominance of one of the waves is shown to be possible within a narrow range of system lengths and to be a result of the transient nature of reflection and wave formation in the medium. This effect is determined by periodic cooperative exchange between the forward and backward waves at the linear stage of the process.

Effect of homogeneous broadening on the generation of forward and backward waves in induced superradiance

A. A. Bogdanov, А. И. Зайцев

It is shown that homogeneous broadening in induced superradiance weakly affects the cooperative exchange between forward and backward waves in a sample. At the same time, homogeneous broadening increases the delay time and attenuates the superradiance pulse intensity. As a result, it may change the regime of predominance of the transmitted or reflected wave.

Inhomogeneous broadening effect on the coherent exchange between the waves in induced supperradiance

A. A. Bogdanov, А. И. Зайцев

It is shown that inhomogeneous broadening in induced superradiance not only increases the delay time and attenuates the superradiance pulse intensity as well as decreases the period of the cooperative exchange between forward and backward waves in a sample. As a result, it may change the regime of predominance of the transmitted or reflected wave. Also the inhomogeneous broadening leads to decaying of exchange.

Initial stage of a superradiance pulse in the case of delayed or prolonged excitation of matter

V.D. Laptev, N. M. Reutova, I. V. Sokolov

The delay time of the principal superradiance pulse is found theoretically for the cases when a longitudinal wide-band pump pulse is long on the time scale of the output radiation or when such a pump pulse travels along an active medium more slowly than the optical wave. A comparison is made of the delay times of the forward and reverse waves. A linearized semiclassical problem (one-dimensional case) with a random source is solved for the amplitude of the radiation field.
