Abstract

We present an experimental study on electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) in the closed transition of a degenerate two-level Cs atomic system. The coupling and probe lasers coupled with the transition 6S1/2F=4 → 6P3/2F'=5 of caesium atom. The signal of EIA was obtained and the frequency detuning and intensity effect of the pumping laser were experimentally investigated. The EIA signal in 6S1/2 F=4 → 6P3/2 F'=4 and 6S1/2 F=4 → 6P3/2 F'=3 open transitions was also obtained. As the repumping laser couples with the transition of 6S1/2 F=3 → 6P3/2 F'=4, the EIA signal is increased due to the hyperfine optical pumping.

Electromagnetically Induced Absorption of Degenerate Two-Level System in a Cesium Vapor Cell

Gang Li

Employing an intense laser field coupling to the degenerate two-level system of cesium 6 2S_ 1/2(F=4)- 6 2P_ 3/2(F′=5) transition in a cesium vapor cell, electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) has been demonstrated via probe absorption spectra, at the same time, electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) of V-type three-level scheme has been demonstrated on the F=4-F′=3 and F=4-F′=4 transition frequency. The EIA is affected by the intensity and detuning of the coupling laser. By analyzing the effect of optical pumping between Zeeman sub-levels on the EIA and the coherent interactions between multiple degenerate two-level atoms, it is shown that the optical pumping affects the population of different Zeeman sub-levels and the number of the involved two-level atoms, the coherent time between the sub-levels is then changed and the linewidth and intensity of the EIA are affected accordingly.

Experimental observation of pump–probe spectra of caesium D 2 line with a vapour cell

Yanhua Wang, Yang Hai-Jing, Tiancai Zhang +1 more

Pump?probe spectra of caesium D2 line are experimentally investigated in a Cs atomic vapour cell with co-propagating orthogonal linearly-polarized pump and probe laser beams. Absorption-reduction dips duo to electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in multi-?-type Zeeman sublevels of 6 S1/2 F=3?6 P3/2 F'=2 hyperfine transition and absorption-enhanced peaks due to electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) in 6 S1/2 F=4?6 P3/2 F'=5 hyperfine transition are demonstrated. With detuned pump beam abnormal sign-reversed signals inside the EIT dip and the EIA peak are clearly observed.

Electromagnetically induced absorption spectra depending on intensities and detunings of the coupling field in Cs vapour

K Kim, Min-Jong Kwon, H D Park +4 more

We have observed electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) spectra depending on intensities and detunings of the coupling field in the cycling transition (6S 1/2 , F = 4↔6P 3/2 , F ' = 5) of the Doppler-broadened Cs atomic system. With a weak coupling field, we were able to see an EIA spectrum with a subnatural linewidth. On increasing the intensity of the coupling laser, we found that a transmission dip produced by an electromagnetically induced transparency appeared at the centre of the EIA structure, which is the first time that this has been observed. By detuning the frequency of the coupling laser, we were able to obtain a clear dispersion-like spectrum for blue-side detuning, but we obtained a complicated shape for red-side detuning because of the influences of other hyperfine levels. These results were compared qualitatively with theoretical curves obtained from a simple model.

Effect of external magnetic field on the coherence properties of degenerated two-level atomic system

Jianming Zhao, Wang Li-Rong, Yanting Zhao +4 more

The electromagnatically induced absorption (EIA) is obtained in degenerated cycled cesium atomic two-level transition of 6S1/2F=4—6P3/2F'=5. The effect of the magnetic field on coherence of the atom is also investigated experimentally. When external magnetic field is applied, the mixed structure of electromagnetically induced absorption and transparency is obtained in the transition of 6S1/2F=4—6P3/2F'=5. The experimental results are in agreement with theoretical analysis of C.Y. Ye et al. (2002).

Experimental investigation of absorption and dispersion in multi-V-type cesium atomic system

Jianming Zhao, Yanting Zhao, Lirong Wang +2 more

Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is observed in a three-level multi-V-type system in cesium vapor at room temperature. The absorption and dispersion properties are measured under the condition that the coupling frequency is exactly resonance with transition 6S1/2(F=4) to 6P3/2(F'=3) while the probe frequency is scanned across the transitions from the 6S1/2(F=4) to all structures of the 6P3/2. The effects of the intensity of the pumping beam on EIT signal are investigated. The simple theory model was presented and the results of the experiment agree with the simple theoretical analysis.

Electromagnetically Induced Transparency in Λ-Type Zeeman Sublevels of Cesium Atoms

Tiancai Zhang

Employing two lasers as the coupling and probe fields which have opposite circular polarization (σ + and σ -), electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in Λ-type Zeeman sublevels of cesium 6 2S 1/2F=3-6 2P 3/2F′=2 degenerate two-level system has been demonstrated via probe absorption spectra. The effect of the intensity and detuning of different coupling. Laser on EII was also investigated in experiments. Within the Doppler background, optical pumping among Zeeman sub-levels and the population of different Zeeman sub-levels can dominate the intensity of EIT effect. And the physical reason of the rugged spectra are presented qualitatively.
