Abstract

Abstract We apply a tomographic method we have recently proposed to the reconstruction of the full entangled quantum state for the cyclotron and spin degrees of freedom of a trapped electron. Our numerical simulations show that the entangled state is accurately reconstructed. -Pacs: 03.65.

Schrödinger-cat entangled state reconstruction in the Penning trap

We present a tomographic method for the reconstruction of the full entangled quantum state for the cyclotron and spin degrees of freedom of an electron in a Penning trap. Numerical simulations of the reconstruction of several significant quantum states show that the method turns out to be quite accurate.

Measuring the cyclotron state of a trapped electron

Stefano Mancini, Paolo Tombesi

We propose the cyclotron state retrieval of an electron trapped in a Penning trap by using different measurement schemes based on suitable modifications of the applied electromagnetic fields, and exploiting the axial degree of freedom as a probe. A test for the matter-antimatter symmetry of the quantum state is proposed.

Quantum Non-Demolition Measurement of Cyclotron Excitations and Wave Function Collapse

Irene Marzoli, P. Tombesi

The quantum non-demolition measurement of the cyclotron excitations of an electron trapped in a Penning trap is shown to be accessible, with the modern technology, by only considering the coupling between the axial and the cyclotron motions induced by the relativistic correction to the electron's mass. It is shown that such a measurement is possible only when the spin state of the electron is preassigned and the wave function will then collapse into a Fock state. When this is not the case the wave function of the electron will collapse into an entangled state.

Synthesis and characterization of entangled mesoscopic superpositions for a trapped electron

We propose a scheme for the generation and reconstruction of entangled states between the internal and external (motional) degrees of freedom of a trapped electron. Such states also exhibit quantum coherence at a mesoscopic level.

Quantum non demolition measurement of cyclotron excitations in a Penning trap

Irene Marzoli, Paolo Tombesi

The quantum non-demolition measurement of the cyclotron excitations of an electron confined in a Penning trap could be obtained by measuring the resonance frequency of the axial motion, which is coupled to the cyclotron motion through the relativistic shift of the electron mass.
