Coherent saturation effects in a Na2laser-induced fluorescence experiment: theory and experiment

Piotr Zalicki, N. Billy, G. Gouédard +1 more

In this paper we analyse the effect of coherent saturation in the laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) of molecules. We develop an earlier model introduced by Billy et al. in 1987 of this coherent effect and propose a simple formula predicting the line shape and the line intensity for a laser-molecule interaction time considerably longer than the excited-state radiative lifetime. The predictions of this formula are tested on a LIF experiment in which a Na2 molecular beam is excited with a continuous-wave single-frequency dye laser. Considerable spectral broadening, up to two hundred times the natural linewidth is observed, in good agreement with the model.

Comparison of the Radon–Nikodym Method with a Multistage Relaxation Model in the Analysis of the Fluorescence Dynamics of a Cold Atomic Ensemble

Sergey V. Bozhokin, A. S. Kuraptsev

Abstract The fluorescence of cold atoms, cooled to ultra-low temperatures and excited by pulsed laser radiation, is calculated. The fluorescence of cold atoms is calculated based on the solution of the non-steady-state Schrödinger equation for a combined system of atoms and an electromagnetic field. A universal function is proposed in the work showing the deviation of the fluorescence decay at the end of the pulse from the single-exponential model. To analyze the dynamics of fluorescence, a Radon–Nikodym method has been used based on the studies on the eigenvalues of a matrix constructed on the basis of the fluorescence signal. It is shown that a correlation exists between the parameter of distribution asymmetry inherent in signal matrix eigenvalues, and the temporal law of fluorescence decay. As an alternative method of fluorescence analysis, a multistage relaxation model is used, caused by collective multiatomic effects. The values of characteristic amplitude and relaxation time both at short times (“superradiance”) and at long times (“subradiance”) have been found.

Effects of size and dimension in optic relaxation in Rb vapor

Sergey Nikitich Atutov, V. A. Sorokin

Abstract We report on an experiment in which the fluorescence decay time of 5P levels of Rb atoms in a coated vapor cell exceeds several of milliseconds that many orders of magnitude longer than normal decay time of excited of rubidium atoms. This effect has been observed by using the pump laser with fixing frequency and the periodically scan the probing laser frequency of which overlap all Rb hyperfine linens of 5P-5S transition. Long time fluorescence decay take place in wide part of the spherical high quality coated cell. In cylindrical part of the cell or in uncoated cell the long time fluorescence decay was disappeared.
