Abstract

For two-dimensional XYX quantum model, iPEPS algorithm can select randomly initial state evolution, and get two degenerate symmetric broken ground state wave functions. In the quantum model, not only bifurcation behavior of ground state fidelity can be used, but bifurcation behavior of reduced density matrix fidelity can also be used to determine the phase transition point and its type caused by spontaneous broken symmetry of quantum of the system. Therefore, spontaneous symmetry breaking based on fidelity bifurcation can determine quantum phase transition one quantum system had gone through. This nature provides a method to further study quantum critical phenomena in quantum multibody system

Quantum phase transitions and bifurcations: reduced fidelity as a phase transition indicator for quantum lattice many-body systems

Jinhua Liu, Qian‐Qian Shi, Jian-Hui Zhao +1 more

We establish an intriguing connection between quantum phase transitions and bifurcations in the reduced fidelity between two different reduced density matrices for quantum lattice many-body systems with symmetry-breaking order. Our finding is based on the observation that in the conventional Landau–Ginzburg–Wilson paradigm a quantum system undergoing a phase transition is characterized in terms of spontaneous symmetry breaking that is captured by a local-order parameter, which in turn results in an essential change of the reduced density matrix in the symmetry-broken phase. Two quantum systems on an infinite lattice in one spatial dimension, i.e. a quantum Ising model in a transverse magnetic field and a quantum spin-1/2 XYX model in an external magnetic field, are considered in the context of the tensor network algorithm based on the matrix product state representation.

Quantum fidelity for degenerate ground states in quantum phase transitions

Su Yao, Bing-Quan Hu, Sheng-Hao Li +1 more

Spontaneous symmetry breaking in quantum phase transitions leads to a system having degenerate ground states in its broken-symmetry phase. In order to detect all possible degenerate ground states for a broken-symmetry phase, we introduce a quantum fidelity defined as an overlap measurement between a system ground state and an arbitrary reference state. If a system has N-fold degenerate ground states in a broken-symmetry phase, the quantum fidelity is shown to have N different values with respect to an arbitrarily chosen reference state. The quantum fidelity then exhibits an N-multiple bifurcation as an indicator of a quantum phase transition without knowing any detailed broken symmetry between a broken-symmetry phase and a symmetry phase as a system parameter crosses its critical value (i.e., a multiple bifurcation point). Each order parameter, characterizing a broken-symmetry phase from each degenerate ground state reveals an N-multiple bifurcation. Furthermore, it is shown that it is possible to specify how each order parameter calculated from degenerate ground states transforms under a subgroup of a symmetry group of the Hamiltonian. Examples are given through study of the quantum q-state Potts models with a transverse magnetic field by employing tensor network algorithms based on infinite-size lattices. For any q, a general relation between the local order parameters is found to clearly show the subgroup of the Z_{q} symmetry group. In addition, we systematically discuss criticality in the q-state Potts model.

Degenerate ground states and multiple bifurcations in a two-dimensional q -state quantum Potts model

Yan-Wei Dai, Sam Young Cho, Murray T. Batchelor +1 more

We numerically investigate the two-dimensional q-state quantum Potts model on the infinite square lattice by using the infinite projected entangled-pair state (iPEPS) algorithm. We show that the quantum fidelity, defined as an overlap measurement between an arbitrary reference state and the iPEPS ground state of the system, can detect q-fold degenerate ground states for the Z_{q} broken-symmetry phase. Accordingly, a multiple bifurcation of the quantum ground-state fidelity is shown to occur as the transverse magnetic field varies from the symmetry phase to the broken-symmetry phase, which means that a multiple-bifurcation point corresponds to a critical point. A (dis)continuous behavior of quantum fidelity at phase transition points characterizes a (dis)continuous phase transition. Similar to the characteristic behavior of the quantum fidelity, the magnetizations, as order parameters, obtained from the degenerate ground states exhibit multiple bifurcation at critical points. Each order parameter is also explicitly demonstrated to transform under the Z_{q} subgroup of the symmetry group of the Hamiltonian. We find that the q-state quantum Potts model on the square lattice undergoes a discontinuous (first-order) phase transition for q=3 and q=4 and a continuous phase transition for q=2 (the two-dimensional quantum transverse Ising model).

Spontaneous symmetry breaking and bifurcations in ground-state fidelity for quantum lattice systems

Jian-Hui Zhao, Honglei Wang, Bo Li +1 more

Spontaneous symmetry breaking occurs in a system when its Hamiltonian possesses a certain symmetry, whereas the ground-state wave functions do not preserve it. This provides such a scenario that a bifurcation, which breaks the symmetry, occurs when some control parameter crosses its critical value. It is unveiled that the ground-state fidelity per lattice site exhibits such a bifurcation for quantum lattice systems undergoing quantum phase transitions. The significance of this result lies in the fact that the ground-state fidelity per lattice site is universal, in the sense that it is model independent, in contrast to (model-dependent) order parameters. This fundamental quantity may be computed by exploiting the developed tensor network algorithms on infinite-size lattices. We illustrate the scheme in terms of the quantum Ising model in a transverse magnetic field and the spin-1/2 XYX model in an external magnetic field on an infinite-size lattice in one spatial dimension.

2-D Quantum Ising Model Fidelity and Order Parameter

Shenghao Li, Yuanyuan Wu

Abstract This paper explores an interesting relationship between the ground-state fidelity quantum phase transitions and bifurcations per lattice site, and proposes a universal order parameter for the quantum Ising model for a square lattice of infinite-size in two spatial dimensions as a prototype model with symmetry breaking order. The approach is based on computing ground-state wave functions using a tensor network algorithm utilizing a representation with infinite projected entangled-pair states. The results can be applied to any systems with symmetry breaking order, because in the conventional Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson paradigm a quantum system subjected to a phase transition exhibits spontaneous symmetry breaking quantified by a local order parameter. A reduced fidelity bifurcation between two different reduced density matrices is also explored.

Numerical Simulation of Two-Dimensional Quantum XYX Model Based on Tensor Network Algorithm

Sheng-Hao Li, Yuancheng Luo, Yuanyuan Wu

The Tensor Network (TN) algorithm for strongly related electronic quantum lattice systems has become the uppermost algorithm for studying strongly related electronic quantum lattice systems in numerical computation. Focusing on the TN algorithm based on 2-D spin systems, this paper discusses the theoretical principles of the Projected Entangled Pair States (PEPS) algorithm and its implementation process. It also explores the infinite PEPS (iPEPS) algorithm for simulating the spin-1/2 infinite 2-D square lattice quantum XYX model. The critical phenomena of the two-dimensional XYX quantum system are analyzed from the perspectives of ground-state fidelity and order parameters, and the quantum critical point is identified. It is anticipated that with the further development of TN algorithms, the single-site fidelity theory of quantum phase transitions (QPTs) can be applied to various quantum many-body systems in condensed matter physics, thereby deepening our understanding of the extremely rich states of matter in the quantum world. Research indicates that quantum information theory provides a universal method for the study of QPTs, which can identify several ground-state fidelities and order parameters through the ground-state wave function of the system, several ground state fidelity and local order parameters can be identified to fully describe some quantum phase transition points, greatly enriching the traditional Landau theory of symmetry breaking QPTs.
