Abstract

A solution in closed analytic form is obtained for the motion of a charged harmonic oscillator in a variable magnetic field. The time-dependent Schr"odinger wave equation is solved in both Cartesian and polar coordinates. The canonical density matrix is calculated via the quasicoherent states.

Gaussian Wave Packet for a Time-Dependent Harmonic Oscillator Model of a Charged Particle in a Variable Magnetic Field

Salah Menouar, Mustapha Maamache, Jeong Ryeol Choi

We obtained the exact solution of the Schrodinger equation for a time-dependent harmonic oscillator model of a charged particle in a variable magnetic field, which is the semiclassical Gaussian wave packet centered around the classical guiding trajectory (p(subscript i), q(svbscript i)). The Gaussian wave packet presented here is well-localized in space and useful for determining various features of the classical-like wave packet.

The time-dependent coupled oscillator model for the motion of a charged particle in the presence of a time-varying magnetic field

Salah Menouar, Mustapha Maamache, Jeong Ryeol Choi

The dynamics of time-dependent coupled oscillator model for the charged particle motion subjected to a time-dependent external magnetic field is investigated. We used canonical transformation approach for the classical treatment of the system, whereas unitary transformation approach is used when managing the system in the framework of quantum mechanics. For both approaches, the original system is transformed to a much more simple system that is the sum of two independent harmonic oscillators which have time-dependent frequencies. We therefore easily identified the wave functions in the transformed system with the help of invariant operator of the system. The full wave functions in the original system is derived from the inverse unitary transformation of the wave functions associated to the transformed system.

Evaluation of the Bloch density matrix for a charged oscillator in a magnetic field by canonical transformations

Mohammed A. Z. Habeeb

The problem of a charged particle moving in an anisotropic harmonic oscillator potential in the presence of a constant external magnetic field is reduced to that of a particle in an anisotropic oscillator by using canonical transformations. The Bloch density matrix for the original problem is then exactly evaluated by transforming the well known result for the anisotropic oscillator with the aid of the integral kernel corresponding to the canonical transformation under consideration.

An alternative approach for the propagator of a charged harmonic oscillator in a magnetic field

Carlos Farina, M. Maneschy, Clifford Neves

An alternative way of computing the propagator of a nonrelativistic (spinless) charged harmonic oscillator in a constant magnetic field through an appropriate variable transformation directly in the Schrödinger equation is proposed. Due to the axial symmetry exhibited by this problem, polar coordinates are used. Also given is a physical interpretation for these results on the light of both classical and quantum mechanics.

The Bloch density matrix for a localised oscillator in a magnetic field

Norman Henry March, M. P. Tosi

A closed analytic form is obtained for the Bloch or canonical density matrix of a localised oscillator in a magnetic field of arbitrary strength, by solving the Bloch equation with the completeness boundary condition.

Canonical treatment of harmonic oscillator with variable mass

M. Sebawe Abdalla

By the use of a canonical transformation the problem of the harmonic oscillator with a time-dependent mass has been transformed to that of an oscillator with a time-dependent frequency. Pseudostationary and quasicoherent states are discussed.
