Bipartite Entanglement in the Two-Mode Quantum Kicked Top

Abstract

We show that the bipartite entanglement in the two-mode quantum kicked top can reveal the underlying chaotic and regular structures in phase space: namely, the entanglement displays a rapid rise after a very short time for an initial spin coherent state centred in a chaotic region of the phase space, whereas the entanglement displays a periodic modulation for the coherent state centred at an elliptic fixed point. The quantum–classical correspondence is investigated by studying the mean and maximal linear entropy.

Spin squeezing properties in the quantum kicked top model

Lijun Song, Xiaoguang Wang, Dong Yan +1 more

We study spin squeezing, an intrinsically quantum property, in the quantum kicked top model exhibiting chaotic behaviours in the classical limit. We show that spin squeezing can reveal the underlying chaotic and regular structures in phase space given by a sphere with a unit radius, namely, spin squeezing vanishes after a very short time for an initial spin coherent state centred in a chaotic region of the phase space, whereas spin squeezing occurs over a long period of time for the coherent state centred in an elliptic fixed point. We also study the distribution of the mean spin directions when quantum dynamics take places and give a comparison between the dynamics of spin squeezing and quantum entanglement.

The Effect of Spin Squeezing on the Entanglement Entropy of Kicked Tops

Ernest Teng Siang Ong, Lock Yue Chew

In this paper, we investigate the effects of spin squeezing on two-coupled quantum kicked tops, which have been previously shown to exhibit a quantum signature of chaos in terms of entanglement dynamics. Our results show that initial spin squeezing can lead to an enhancement in both the entanglement rate and the asymptotic entanglement for kicked tops when the initial state resides in the regular islands within a mixed classical phase space. On the other hand, we found a reduction in these two quantities if we were to choose the initial state deep inside the chaotic sea. More importantly, we have uncovered that an application of periodic spin squeezing can yield the maximum attainable entanglement entropy, albeit this is achieved at a reduced entanglement rate.

Entanglement as a signature of quantum chaos

Xiaoguang Wang, Shohini Ghose, Barry C. Sanders +1 more

We explore the dynamics of entanglement in classically chaotic systems by considering a multiqubit system that behaves collectively as a spin system obeying the dynamics of the quantum kicked top. In the classical limit, the kicked top exhibits both regular and chaotic dynamics depending on the strength of the chaoticity parameter kappa in the Hamiltonian. We show that the entanglement of the multiqubit system, considered for both the bipartite and the pairwise entanglement, yields a signature of quantum chaos. Whereas bipartite entanglement is enhanced in the chaotic region, pairwise entanglement is suppressed. Furthermore, we define a time-averaged entangling power and show that this entangling power changes markedly as kappa moves the system from being predominantly regular to being predominantly chaotic, thus sharply identifying the edge of chaos. When this entangling power is averaged over all states, it yields a signature of global chaos. The qualitative behavior of this global entangling power is similar to that of the classical Lyapunov exponent.

Entanglement and chaos in the kicked top

M. Lombardi, A. Matzkin

The standard kicked top involves a periodically kicked angular momentum. By considering this angular momentum as a collection of entangled spins, we compute the bipartite entanglement dynamics as a function of the dynamics of the classical counterpart. Our numerical results indicate that the entanglement of the quantum top depends on the specific details of the dynamics of the classical top rather than depending universally on the global properties of the classical regime. These results are grounded on linking the entanglement rate to averages involving the classical angular momentum, thereby explaining why regular dynamics can entangle as efficiently as the classically chaotic regime. The findings are in line with previous results obtained with a two-particle top model, and we show here that the standard kicked top can be obtained as a limiting case of the two-particle top.

Chaos, entanglement, and decoherence in the quantum kicked top

Shohini Ghose, R. Stock, Poul Jessen +2 more

We analyze the interplay of chaos, entanglement, and decoherence in a system of qubits whose collective behavior is that of a quantum kicked top. The dynamical entanglement between a single qubit and the rest can be calculated from the mean of the collective spin operators. This allows the possibility of efficiently measuring entanglement dynamics in an experimental setting. We consider a deeply quantum regime and show that signatures of chaos are present in the dynamical entanglement for parameters accessible in an experiment that we propose using cold atoms. The evolution of the entanglement depends on the support of the initial state on regular versus chaotic Floquet eigenstates, whose phase-space distributions are concentrated on the corresponding regular or chaotic eigenstructures. We include the effect of decoherence via a realistic model and show that the signatures of chaos in the entanglement dynamics persist in the presence of decoherence. In addition, the classical chaos affects the decoherence rate itself.

Entanglement and its relationship to classical dynamics

Joshua B. Ruebeck, Jie Lin, Arjendu K. Pattanayak

We present an analysis of the entangling quantum kicked top focusing on the few qubit case and the initial condition dependence of the time-averaged entanglement S_{Q} for spin-coherent states. We show a very strong connection between the classical phase space and the initial condition dependence of S_{Q} even for the extreme case of two spin-1/2 qubits. This correlation is not related directly to chaos in the classical dynamics. We introduce a measure of the behavior of a classical trajectory which correlates far better with the entanglement and show that the maps of classical and quantum initial-condition dependence are both organized around the symmetry points of the Hamiltonian. We also show clear (quasi-)periodicity in entanglement as a function of number of kicks and of kick strength.
