Trimodal random-field Ising systems in a transverse field

Abstract

The trimodal random-field Ising model with the presence of a transverse field is investigated by introducing a parameter p to simulate the fraction of spins not exposed to the external longitudinal magnetic field. Phase diagrams are obtained for different cases, and conditions for the occurrence of tricritical and reentrant phenomena are found. The competing effects on phase transitions due to the magnetic randomness and quantum fluctuations are also discussed.

Trimodal random-field distribution of a transverse Ising model

F. S. Milman, Paulo R. Hauser, W. Figueiredo

We determine the phase diagram of a transverse Ising model with a diluted distribution of longitudinal random fields. Within a mean-field approach, we find in the space of temperature, transverse field, and random-field parameters a rich variety of multicritical lines. We also show that the reentrant phenomena are restricted to a limited concentration of random fields.

Phase diagrams and tricritical behavior of a diluted spin-1 transverse Ising model in a random field

Enaldo F. Sarmento, T. Kaneyoshi

Phase diagrams and magnetization curves of a diluted spin-1 transverse Ising model in a random field on honeycomb, square, and simple-cubic lattices, respectively, are investigated by the use of an effective-field theory with correlations. The tricritical point is found in the system, in contrast to the corresponding spin-1/2 Ising counterpart. The behavior of the tricritical point is also examined as a function of applied transverse field. The possible reentrant phenomena displayed by the system due to the competition effects that occur for appropriate ranges of the random and transverse fields are investigated.

Transverse-random-field mixed Ising model with arbitrary spins

X. M. Weng, Z. Y. Li

The transverse-random-field mixed Ising model consisting of arbitrary spin values has been studied by combining the pair model approximation with discretized path-integral representation. The phase diagrams of systems with mixed spins: \ensuremath{\sigma}=1/2, S=1; \ensuremath{\sigma}=1/2, S=3/2, and \ensuremath{\sigma}=1, S=2 are plotted. Not only the discontinuity at T=0 K is found between the trimodal and bimodal distributions of transverse fields, which is similar to the single-spin counterpart, but also the tricritical behavior is observed in these phase diagrams when both transverse fields are trimodal distributed, which is different from the single-spin one. The appearance of tricritical point is independent of the coordination number and spin values. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Phase diagram of the transverse Ising model in a random field

F. S. Milman, Paulo R. Hauser, W. Figueiredo

We determine the phase diagram of the transverse Ising model with a trimodal distribution (sum of three \ensuremath{\delta} functions) for a longitudinal random field at T=0, using a mean-field approximation. The phase diagram includes tricritical points, ordered critical points, a fourth-order point, critical end points, and a double critical end point. Our T=0 phase diagram is completely equivalent to the one obtained by Kaufman, Klunzinger, and Khurana for the random-field Ising model. We show that the temperature and the magnitude of the transverse field play a similar role.

Thermodynamic Properties of Random Transverse Field Mixed Spin System in the Presence of Single-Ion Anisotropy

Zhang Ya-Nan, Yan Shi-Lei

We study the thermodynamic properties of random transverse field mixed spin system in the presence of single-ion anisotropy on a square lattice. By making use of the effective field theory and a cutting approximation, the detailed phase diagrams are described and some interesting results are found under trimodal random transverse field distribution. A small single-ion anisotropy can magnify magnetic ordering region at low temperatures and existence of a large transverse field can assist the occurrence of reentrant phenomena. With increasing disorder, second-order phase transitions are shown to change into first-order phase transitions. The trajectory of the tricritical point in the phase space as a function of disorder is presented. These indicate a strong correlation with the corresponding to trimodal transverse field distribution.

Phase Diagram and Tricritical Behavior of a Spin-2 Transverse Ising Model in a Random Field

Yaqiu Liang, Guozhu Wei, Song Li-Li +2 more

The phase diagrams of a spin-2 transverse Ising model with a random field on honeycomb, square, and simple-cubic lattices, respectively, are investigated within the framework of an effective-field theory with correlations. We find the behavior of the tricritical point and the reentrant phenomenon for the system with any coordination number z , when the applied random field is bimodal. The behavior of the tricritical point is also examined as a function of applied transverse field. The reentrant phenomenon comes from the competition between the transverse field and the random field.
