Abstract

The authors present phase properties of a field mode interacting with two two-level atoms using the Pegg and Barnett formalism. They derive analytical and approximate expressions for the phase probability distribution, and calculate the mean value of the phase and their fluctuations. A discussion with respect to the coupling constant of the atoms is given.

Phase Properties of a Field Mode Interacting with a Three-Level Atom with Kerr Nonlinearity

A.‐S. F. Obada, A.M. Abdel-Hafez, A. H. Essawy +1 more

Phase properties of a field interacting with a three-level atom with a Kerr-like medium are investigated through the phase formalism of Pegg and Barnett. The phase probability distribution, the expectation value and the phase fluctuations of the Hermitian phase operator are calculated. The phase properties of the field reflect the collapses and revivals. A number of interesting features are found and discussed.

Phase properties of the radiation fields in Raman process

Peng Zhou

The general evolution of the interaction of two radiation fields with an effective two-level atom via the Raman-type transitions is presented. Using the Pegg-Barnett phase theory, the joint phase probability distribution of the two field modes, phase average values and phase fluctuations are studied in detail. Also, the effect of the presence of a field on the phase properties of the other mode is examined.

Phase properties of a field mode interacting withNtwo-level atoms

G. Drobný, Ts. Gantsog, Igor Jex

We analyze the phase properties of a strong cavity field interacting with an ensemble of initially excited N two-level atoms. Using the Pegg-Barnett phase formalism [Phys. Rev. A 39, 1665 (1989)], we calculate the phase probability distribution as well as the phase variance. The phase probability density exhibits a (N+1)-peak structure at the initial stages of the evolution. The phase variance is used to illustrate the progressive randomization of the phase on the long-time evolution. The difference in the phase dynamics for the N even and the N odd case is pointed out.

Phase properties in the model of two coupling two-level atoms interacting with squeezed coherent light-field

Tao Xiang-yang

The phase properties in the system of the coupling two-level atoms interacting with squeezed coherent-state light-field is studied from the point of the Pegg-Barnett phase theory. The phase probability distribution and the phase fluctuation are investigated. Meanwhile, the influence of the field amplitude, the compressed parameter, and the coupling coefficient between atoms on the phase properties is also discussed. The results show that the phase probability distribution presents three-peak Gaussian configuration. The maximum of the phase probability distribution lies at the point of the zero phase arid the phase fluctuation is small, while at other place the value of the phase probability distribution is relatively small and vibrates easily. At the same time, because of the influence of light-field squeezing effect, the phase probability distribution is different from that of coherent-state field.

Phase properties of the field interacting with a three-level atom. I. One-mode case

E.I. Aliskenderov, Ho Trung Dung, A.S. Shumovsky

Phase properties of a one-mode coherent field interacting with a three-level atom under two-photon resonance are studied using the new phase formalism of Pegg and Barnett (1988). The connection between the collapse and revival phenomenon and dynamical properties of the field phase is found. Interesting features such as the partial trapping of the field phase in its initial state are discovered and discussed.

Phase Properties of a Strong Field Interacting with Many Atoms with and Without Initial Atomic Coherences

Xiang Ming Hu

The phase distributions of an initially strong, coherent, single-mode field interacting with one, two, three and four identical atoms with and without initial atomic coherences using the Pegg-Barnett Hermitian phase operator formalism have been examined. A number of interesting features of the phase distributions are revealed. A link between the coincidences of the peaks in the phase probability distribution and the revivals in the two-atom case is also shown.
