Spin Correlation Mediated by a Spinless Particle

Abstract

We consider a process in which a neutral spinless particle decays into a charged spin-1 particle ${V}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ and a charged spin-0 particle. The latter then decays into a ${V}^{\ensuremath{\mp}}$ and another neutral spinless particle. It is shown that the spins of the ${V}^{+}$ and ${V}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ are correlated. This correlation, however, becomes vanishingly small as soon as it is possible to decide whether the ${V}^{+}$ or the ${V}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ was emitted first.

Bosonization approach to charge and spin dynamics of one-dimensional spin- 12 fermions with band curvature in a clean quantum wire

S. Teber

We consider one-dimensional spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ fermions in a clean quantum wire, with forward scattering interactions and a nonlinear single-particle spectrum ${\ensuremath{\xi}}_{k}=v\ensuremath{\mid}k\ensuremath{\mid}+{k}^{2}∕2m$, where $v$ is the Fermi velocity and $1∕m$ is the band curvature. We calculate the dynamical structure factor (DSF) of the model at small wave vector $q$ with the help of the bosonization technique. For spinless fermions, we show that, starting from the single-parametric spectrum $\ensuremath{\omega}=u\ensuremath{\mid}q\ensuremath{\mid}$, bosonization emulates the two-parametric excitation spectrum $\ensuremath{\omega}=u\ensuremath{\mid}q\ensuremath{\mid}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{q}^{2}∕2{m}^{*}$, where ${m}^{*}$ decreases with increasing repulsive interactions. Moreover, away from the excitation cone, i.e., $\ensuremath{\omega}⪢u\ensuremath{\mid}q\ensuremath{\mid}$, bosonization yields the two-pair excitation continuum of the DSF. For spinful fermions, we show that the spin-charge coupling (SCC) due to band curvature affects the charge and spin DSFs in an asymmetric way. For the charge DSF, SCC manifests as a two-peak structure: a charge peak at $\ensuremath{\omega}={u}_{\ensuremath{\rho}}\ensuremath{\mid}q\ensuremath{\mid}$ but also a spin peak at $\ensuremath{\omega}={u}_{\ensuremath{\sigma}}\ensuremath{\mid}q\ensuremath{\mid}$, as charge fluctuations may decay via chargeless spin-singlet excitations. For the magnetic DSF, SCC manifests as a continuous transfer of magnetic spectral weight to frequencies $\ensuremath{\omega}>{u}_{\ensuremath{\sigma}}\ensuremath{\mid}q\ensuremath{\mid}$, as spin fluctuations decay via pairs of chargeless spin and spinless charge-neutral excitations.

Physical model for the electron spin correlation

Ana Marı́a Cetto

The quantum formula for the spin correlation of the bipartite singlet spin state, $C_{Q}(\boldsymbol{a},\boldsymbol{b})$, is derived on the basis of a probability distribution $\rho(\phi)$ that is generic, i. e., independent of $(\boldsymbol{a},\boldsymbol{b})$. In line with a previous result obtained within the framework of the quantum formalism, the probability space is partitioned according to the sign of the product $A=\alpha\beta$ of the individual spin projections $\alpha$ and $\beta$ onto $\boldsymbol{a}$ and $\boldsymbol{b}$; this precludes the transfer of $\alpha$ or $\beta$ from $C_{Q}(\boldsymbol{a},\boldsymbol{b})$ to $C_{Q}(\boldsymbol{a},\boldsymbol{b'})$, for $\boldsymbol{b'}\neq\boldsymbol{b}.$ A specific physical model that reproduces the quantum spin correlation serves to validate our approach.

Zero-temperature geometric spin dephasing on a ring in the presence of an Ohmic environment

B. Horovitz, Pierre Le Doussal, Gergely Zaránd

We study zero-temperature spin dynamics of a particle confined to a ring in the presence of spin-orbit coupling and Ohmic electromagnetic fluctuations. We show that the dynamics of the angular position θ( t ) are decoupled from the spin dynamics and that the latter is mapped to certain correlations of a spinless particle. We find that the spin correlations in the z -direction (perpendicular to the ring) are finite at long times, i.e. do not dephase. The parallel (in-plane) components for spin do not dephase at weak dissipation but they probably decay as a power law with time at strong dissipation.

Electron-electron attraction via Coulomb correlations and possible superconductivity in a 1D electron liquid on a rigid neutralizing background

Yu. P. Monarkha

Conditions at which a quasi-one-dimensional (1D) electron system can be considered as a quantum liquid of impenetrable charged particles are theoretically analyzed. In the presence of an inert, neutralizing background, a motion of impenetrable electrons is shown to expose a positive charge, resulting in an effective mutual attraction of infinite range. As a result, all electrons are involved in the long-range pairing. A model of spinless fermions with infinitesimal attraction of infinite range is proposed to describe the excitation spectrum and the superconducting gap in low-density 1D electron channels. In contrast with the conventional theory, the energy gap does not contain exponentially small factors. It depends mostly on the Coulombic parameters of the system, which guides practical aspects of high-temperature superconductivity.
