Abstract

In this study, the physical layer security for cognitive radio network (CRN) will be investigated in which a secondary user transmitter (SU-Tx) sends confidential information to a SU receiver (SU-Rx) on the same frequency band of a primary user (PU) in the presence of an eavesdropper receiver. Moreover, relay selection scheme is proposed for the security constrained CRNs with single eavesdropper, multiple eavesdroppers and PUs. The proposed scheme selects a trusted decode and forward relay to assist the SU-Tx and maximise the achievable secrecy rate that is subjected to the interference power constraints at the PUs for the different number of eavesdroppers and PUs under available channel knowledge. The SU cooperates with relays only when a high secrecy rate is achieved. Secrecy rate and secrecy outage probability are the two performance metrics that are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme although asymptotic approximations of the secrecy outage probability are also derived. Simulation and analytical results demonstrate that the performance improvement of the proposed scheme reaches to the double relative to the conventional scheme for the secrecy capacity.

On physical layer security for cognitive radio networks with primary user interference

Louis Sibomana, Hung Tran, Hans‐Jürgen Zepernick

In this paper, we investigate the secondary network physical layer security under the outage constraint of the primary user (PU) receiver and interference from the PU transmitter to the secondary network. In particular, a secondary user (SU) transmitter sends confidential messages to trusted multiple SU receivers (SU-Rxs) in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers (EAVs). Further, we exploit multiuser diversity where the SU-Rx with best channel condition is scheduled for transmission. Then, analytical expressions of the probability of existence of non-zero secrecy capacity and secrecy outage probability are obtained. Analytical and simulation results are provided to evaluate the effect of the number of SU-Rxs and number of EAVs on the secondary system. Interestingly, the numerical results show that the interference from the primary network to the secondary network is an important parameter to improve the secondary network security.

Secrecy outage analysis for cooperative DF underlay CRNs with outdated CSI

Weiwei Yang, Xiaoming Xu, Yueming Cai +1 more

In this paper, we investigate the secrecy outage probability (SOP) for the cooperative decode-and-forward (DF) underlay cognitive radio networks (CRNs). Duo to the spectrum sharing approach in underlay CRNs, the secondary transmitters (secondary source (SUS) and secondary relay (SUR)) are subjected to interference power constraint at primary user (PU), and the SU receivers (SURand secondary destination (SUD)) suffer from the co-channel interferences (CCIs) from PU. We focus on the practical scenario where the SU transmitter has no channel state information (CSI) of the eavesdropper's channel. Interference-power-confined selection scheme is proposed for the cooperative DF CRNs in the presence of an eavesdropper. The proposed scheme selects the “best” terminal (SUSor SUR) to enhance the secure performance which must firstly satisfy the interference power constraint. What's more, the effect of feedback delay on the selection scheme is studied. We derive an exact closed-form expression for the SOP. Simulation results validate our theoretical analysis and show that the proposed selection scheme determinately enhance the performance, and feedback delay decreases the SOP seriously, specially, the interference power constraint hugely confine the SOP.

Secrecy performance Analysis for Underlay Cognitive Radio Network with Optimal Antenna Selection and Generalized Receiver Selection

Shilpa Thakur, Ajay Singh

We have examined the physical layer security of an underlay cognitive radio network (CRN) consisting of L legitimate receivers ( STX), a secondary transmitter ( STX), an eavesdropper (Eve), and a primary user (PU). All SRX and the PU are equipped with a single antenna while the STX and Eve are implemented with multiple antennas. The optimal antenna selection scheme (OAS) is adopted at the STX, which maximizes the secrecy capacity while a generalized receiver selection scheme is adopted at the SRX. The STX sends information to the SRX with the lthbest signal to noise ratio (SNR). The concise expressions for exact and asymptotic secrecy outage probability (SOP) for an arbitrary number of SRX, number of transmit antenna NA, and number of eavesdropper antenna NE have derived.

On the Secrecy Analysis of Dual-Hop Underlay Multi-Source CRNs with Multi-Eavesdroppers and a Multi-Antenna Destination

Mounia Bouabdellah, Faissal El Bouanani, Daniel Benevides da Costa +4 more

In this paper, the physical layer security in cognitive radio networks (CRNs) is investigated. We consider an underlay relay assisted CRN consisting of multiple secondary sources, multiple-antenna destination, a single relay, and multiple eavesdroppers. The destination node performs the maximal-ratio combining under uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channels. In more details, we consider, a secondary source is randomly selected to transmit its data, and a jammer is chosen from the remaining source nodes to send a jamming signal to the eavesdroppers. The closed-form expression of the secrecy outage probability is derived, based on the statistical characteristics of the communication channels, under the primary user's quality of service constraint. The derived analysis gives deep insights into the impact of network parameters on the performance of on the secrecy outage performance. Analytic results are corroborated through Monte Carlo simulation.

Improved Transmit Design for Physical Layer Security in Cognitive Radio Networks with Multiple Eavesdropper Base on Semi-definite Programming

Xianzhong Xie, Xie Cheng-jing, Weijia Lei +1 more

In the Cognitive Radio Network (CRN) with multiple multi-antenna eavesdroppers, to make the system security rate maximum, secure communication over the physical layer that is subjected to the interference power constraints at the Primary Users (PU) is provided by designing the transmit covariance optimization of Secondary User Transmitter (SU-Tx).When?the?Channel State?Information (CSI) is known, the properties of the matrices and Charnes-Cooper transformation are used, the non-convex function is converted to a Semi-Definite Programming (SDP) to get the optimization scheme of SU-Tx. Simulation results show that compared with the existing sub-optimal transmission designs, the proposed method improves the secrecy rate and has more advantages on the complexity.

Achievable secrecy capacity in an underlay cognitive radio network

Louis Sibomana, Hans‐Jürgen Zepernick, Hung Tran

In this paper, we consider a spectrum sharing cognitive radio network where a secondary user (SU) transmitter (SU-Tx) communicates with multiple SU receivers (SU-Rxs). There exist multiple eavesdroppers (EAVs) who illegally listen to the secondary network communication. Further, the primary network consists of a primary user (PU) transmitter serving multiple PU receivers. In particular, the SU-Tx transmit power is subject to the joint constraint of PU outage and SU maximum transmit power limit. Moreover, we investigate the secondary network physical layer security in terms of average secrecy capacity for both cases of known and unknown channel information of the EAV at the SU-Tx. Numerical results are provided to evaluate the impact of the number of PU-Rxs, number of EAVs, number of SU-Rxs, and channel mean powers among users on the SU average secrecy capacity.
