Abstract

In this paper, we introduce EPOSIC channels, a class of SU(2)-covariant quantum channels. For each of them, we give a Kraus representation, its Choi matrix, a complementary channel, and its dual map. We show that they are the extreme points of all SU(2)-irreducibly covariant channels. As an application of these channels, we get an example of a positive map that is not completely positive.

SU(2)-Irreducibly covariant and EPOSIC channels

In this paper we introduce EPOSIC channels, a class of SU(2)-covariant quantum channels. We give their definition, a Kraus representation of them, and compute their Choi matrices. We show that these channels form the set of extreme points of all SU(2)-irreducibly covariant channels. We also compute their complementary channels, and their dual maps. As application of these channel, we get a new example of positive map that is not completely positive.

SU(2)-Irreducibly Covariant Quantum Channels and Some Applications

Muneerah Al Nuwairan

In this thesis, we introduce EPOSIC channels, a class of SU(2) -covariant quantum channels. For each of them, we give a Stinespring representation, a Kraus representation, its Choi matrix, a complementary channel, and its dual map. We show that these channels are the extreme points of all SU(2) -irreducibly covariant channels. As an application of these channels to the theory of quantum information, we study the minimal output entropy of EPOSIC channels, and show that a large class of these channels is a potential example of violating the well-known problem, the additivity problem. We determine the cases where their minimal output entropy is not zero, and obtain some partial results on the fulfillment of their entanglement breaking property. We find a bound of the minimal output entropy of the tensor product of two SU(2) -irreducibly covariant channels. We also get an example of a positive map that is not completely positive.

Quantum channels irreducibly covariant with respect to the finite group generated by the Weyl operators

Katarzyna Siudzińska, Dariusz Chruściński

In matrix algebras, we introduce a class of linear maps that are irreducibly covariant with respect to the finite group generated by the Weyl operators. In particular, we analyze the irreducibly covariant quantum channels, that is, the completely positive and trace-preserving linear maps. Interestingly, imposing additional symmetries leads to the so-called generalized Pauli channels, which were recently considered in the context of the non-Markovian quantum evolution. Finally, we provide examples of irreducibly covariant positive but not necessarily completely positive maps.

SU(2)-Covariant Quantum Channels

Łukasz Rudnicki, A. B. Klimov, Ariana S. Muñoz +2 more

We present a complete characterization of quantum channels covariant under the action of SU(2), a symmetry that arises naturally across a wide range of physical settings. By exploiting the constraints imposed by rotational symmetry, we derive the spectral decomposition of the associated Choi–Jamiołkowski operators and obtain explicit closed-form expressions for the corresponding Kraus operators. This unified framework provides a systematic approach to analyzing the structure and dynamics of SU(2)-covariant noise, with direct applications to quantum communication, information processing, and symmetry-constrained quantum protocols.

Smooth manifold structure for extreme channels

Raban Iten, Roger Colbeck

A quantum channel from a system $A$ of dimension $d_A$ to a system $B$ of dimension $d_B$ is a completely positive trace-preserving map from complex $d_A\times d_A$ to $d_B\times d_B$ matrices, and the set of all such maps with Kraus rank $r$ has the structure of a smooth manifold. We describe this set in two ways. First, as a quotient space of (a subset of) the $rd_B\times d_A$ dimensional Stiefel manifold. Secondly, as the set of all Choi-states of a fixed rank $r$. These two descriptions are topologically equivalent. This allows us to show that the set of all Choi-states corresponding to extreme channels from system $A$ to system $B$ of a fixed Kraus rank $r$ is a smooth submanifold of dimension $2rd_Ad_B-d_A^2-r^2$ of the set of all Choi-states of rank $r$. As an application, we derive a lower bound on the number of parameters required for a quantum circuit topology to be able to approximate all extreme channels from $A$ to $B$ arbitrarily well.

A quantum channel from a system AAA of dimension dAd_AdA to a system BBB of dimension dBd_BdB is a completely positive trace-preserving map from complex dA×dAd_A\times d_AdA×dA to dB×dBd_B\times d_BdB×dB matrices, and the set of all such maps with Kraus rank rrr has the structure of a smooth manifold.
