Quantum-enhanced super-sensitivity of a Mach–Zehnder interferometer with superposition of Schrödinger’s cat-like state and Fock state as inputs using a two-channel detection

We study the improvement in the phase sensitivity of a Mach–Zehnder interferometer using the superposition of Schrödinger’s cat-like state with the Fock state (SCFS) and the coherent state as inputs. With this setup, we examine the effect on phase sensitivity of the interferometer using a two-channel detection (TCD) scheme [ Opt. Express 29 , 95 ( 2021 ) OPEXFF 1094-4087 10.1364/OE.413391 ] in which we take the optimal combination of the intensities of both output ports. We find better phase sensitivity under some conditions for this setup as compared to other known combinations of inputs such as squeezed vacuum and coherent states, vacuum and coherent states, etc. Therefore, we expect that the SCFS may be an alternative nonclassical resource for improvement in the phase sensitivity of a Mach–Zehnder interferometer, having potential application in quantum sensing.

Cosine-of-phase sensitivity of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer for the Fock state inputs

A. Lukš, Vlasta Peřinová

In the case of the Mach-Zehnder interferometer fed with Fock states we speak of estimation of the cosine of phase instead of estimation of the phase. In case the numbers of input photons are equal, we pay attention to a proposal by Kim, et al . (1998). Then we restrict ourselves to the estimation of the cosine of double phase. Although such restrictions can be lifted, they harbinger a unified approach both to the phase sensitivity and to the Cramér-Rao lower bound of the estimator variance.

Phase Sensitivity of a Mach-Zehnder Quantum Sensor

Thomas B. Bahder, Paul A. Lopata

We investigate the dependence of the fidelity of a Mach-Zehnder quantum interferometer on the prior information about the phase, for Fock state input and for maximally entangled (N00N) state input. For no prior information, the fidelity for Fock state input is greater than for N00N state input. In the limit of a narrow distribution describing the prior information, we find that both Fock and N00N state inputs lead to nearly equal fidelity.
