Abstract

The ground-state fidelity per lattice site is computed for the quantum three-state Potts model in a transverse magnetic field on an infinite-size lattice in one spatial dimension in terms of the infinite matrix product state algorithm. It is found that, on the one hand, a pinch point is identified on the fidelity surface around the critical point, and on the other hand, the ground-state fidelity per lattice site exhibits bifurcations at pseudo critical points for different values of the truncation dimension, which in turn approach the critical point as the truncation dimension becomes large. This implies that the ground-state fidelity per lattice site enables us to capture spontaneous symmetry breaking when the control parameter crosses the critical value. In addition, a finite-entanglement scaling of the von Neumann entropy is performed with respect to the truncation dimension, resulting in a precise determination of the central charge at the critical point. Finally, we compute the transverse magnetization, from which the critical exponent β is extracted from the numerical data.

Critical exponents of block-block mutual information in one-dimensional infinite lattice systems

Yan-Wei Dai, Xi Hao Chen, Sam Young Cho +1 more

We study the mutual information between two lattice blocks in terms of von Neumann entropies for one-dimensional infinite lattice systems. Quantum q-state Potts model and transverse-field spin-1/2 XY model are considered numerically by using the infinite matrix product state approach. As a system parameter varies, block-block mutual information exhibit singular behaviors that enable us to identify the critical points for the quantum phase transitions. As happens with von Neumann entanglement entropy of single block, at critical points, block-block mutual information for two adjacent blocks show a logarithmic leading behavior with increasing the size of the blocks, which yields the central charge c of the underlying conformal field theory, as it should be. It seems that two disjoint blocks show a similar logarithmic growth of the mutual information as a characteristic property of critical systems but the proportional coefficients of the logarithmic term are very different from the central charges. As the separation between the two lattice blocks increases, the mutual information reveals a consistent power-law decaying behavior for various truncation dimensions and lattice-block sizes. The critical exponent of block-block mutual information in the thermodynamic limit is estimated by extrapolating the exponents of power-law decaying regions for finite truncation dimensions. For a given lattice-block size ℓ, the critical exponents for the same universality classes seem to have very close values each other. Whereas the critical exponents have different values to a degree of distinction for the different universality classes. As the lattice-block size becomes bigger, the critical exponent becomes smaller. We discuss a relation between the exponents of block-block mutual information and correlation with the Shatten one-norm of block-block correlation.

Bifurcation in ground-state fidelity and universal order parameter for two-dimensional quantum transverse Ising model

Sheng-Hao Li, Honglei Wang, Qian‐Qian Shi +1 more

We establish an intriguing connection between quantum phase transitions and bifurcations in the ground-state fidelity per lattice site, and construct the universal order parameter for quantum Ising model in a transverse magnetic field on an infinite-size square lattice in two spatial dimensions, a prototypical model with symmetry breaking order. This is achieved by computing ground-state wave functions in the context of the tensor network algorithm based on the infinite projected entangled-pair state representation. Our finding is applicable to any systems with symmetry breaking order, as a result of the fact that, in the conventional Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson paradigm, a quantum system undergoing a phase transition is characterized in terms of spontaneous symmetry breaking captured by a local order parameter. In addition, a bifurcation in the reduced fidelity between two different reduced density matrices is also discussed.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking and bifurcations in ground-state fidelity for quantum lattice systems

Jian-Hui Zhao, Honglei Wang, Bo Li +1 more

Spontaneous symmetry breaking occurs in a system when its Hamiltonian possesses a certain symmetry, whereas the ground-state wave functions do not preserve it. This provides such a scenario that a bifurcation, which breaks the symmetry, occurs when some control parameter crosses its critical value. It is unveiled that the ground-state fidelity per lattice site exhibits such a bifurcation for quantum lattice systems undergoing quantum phase transitions. The significance of this result lies in the fact that the ground-state fidelity per lattice site is universal, in the sense that it is model independent, in contrast to (model-dependent) order parameters. This fundamental quantity may be computed by exploiting the developed tensor network algorithms on infinite-size lattices. We illustrate the scheme in terms of the quantum Ising model in a transverse magnetic field and the spin-1/2 XYX model in an external magnetic field on an infinite-size lattice in one spatial dimension.

Fidelity approach to quantum phase transitions: finite-size scaling for the quantum Ising model in a transverse field

Huan-Qiang Zhou, Jian-Hui Zhao, Bo Li

We analyze the fidelity per lattice site for two different ground states of the one-dimensional quantum Ising model in a transverse field near the critical point. It is found that, in the thermodynamic limit, the fidelity per lattice site is singular, and the derivative of its logarithmic function with respect to the transverse field strength is logarithmically divergent at the critical point. The scaling behavior is confirmed numerically by performing a finite-size scaling analysis for systems of different sizes, consistent with the conformal invariance at the critical point. This allows us to extract the correlation length critical exponent, which turns out to be universal in the sense that the correlation length critical exponent does not depend on either the anisotropic parameter or the transverse field strength.

Calculation of Universal Construction of Order Parameters of Quantum Three-State Potts Model

Yunqing Tang

The ground-state universal construction of order parameters per lattice is computed for the quantum three-state Potts model in a transverse magnetic field in one spatial in terms of the iMPS algorithm. It is found that the behaviors of universal construction of order parameters are different when the control parameter crosses the critical point. This implies that the systems undergo spontaneous symmetry breaking, and we can locate the phase transition point. The critical point λc is determined from an extrapolation of the pseudo phase transition point λχ with respect to the truncation dimension,so we can get λc =0.9991,which is close to the exact critical point 1.The practical importance of universal construction of order parameters lies in computing and studying quantum phase transition.

Ground state fidelity in bond-alternative Ising chains with Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interactions

Bo Li, Sam Young Cho, Honglei Wang +1 more

A systematic analysis is performed for quantum phase transitions in a bond-alternative one-dimensional Ising model with a Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya (DM) interaction by using the fidelity of ground state wavefunctions based on the infinite matrix product states algorithm. For an antiferromagnetic phase, the fidelity per lattice site exhibits a bifurcation, which shows spontaneous symmetry breaking in the system. A critical DM interaction is inversely proportional to an alternating exchange coupling strength for a quantum phase transition. Further, a finite-entanglement scaling of von Neumann entropy with respect to truncation dimensions gives a central charge c ≃ 0.5 at the critical point.
