Nonclassical states in cavity with injected atoms

Abstract

It is found that displacement and squeezing of arbitrary initial states of the field can be produced in the model of a lossless cavity when a large number of two-level atoms is injected, which are prepared in a superposition state coupled to the single mode via a multi-photon transition under the weak atom-field interaction. The dependence of the field density matrix elements on the number of injected atoms indicates that due to the same initial atomic coherence the emission of individual atoms is a co-operative process.

N-level Atom Interacting with Single-mode Radiation Field: An Exactly Solvable Model with Multiphoton Transitions and Intensity-dependent Coupling

Vladimír Bužek

We study the dynamics of an N-level atom coupled in a lossless cavity to a single-mode near-resonant quantized field. The atomic levels are coupled by the multiphoton transitions and the coupling constants between the field and the atomic levels are supposed to be intensity dependent. We find the exact solution for the state vector describing the dynamics of the atom-plus-field system. As an illustration we use the model for studying (i) the time evolution of the atomic occupation probability with the initially coherent field and (ii) the light squeezing, when the cavity field is initially in the vacuum state and the atom is prepared in the atomic ‘coherent state’ (a superposition of atomic states).

Single-atom cavity-enhanced absorption with injected squeezed vacuum: photon statistics

Perry R. Rice, L. M. Pedrotti, J. Walden

We consider a single two-level atom in an optical cavity, in which the system is driven by a coherent driving field. In the bad-cavity limit, when the cavity loss rate is taken to be large compared to the atomic decay rate and atom-field coupling, the cavity field can be adiabatically eliminated from the equations of motion for the atomic operators. The main effect of the cavity in this limit is the enhancement of spontaneous emission into the cavity mode. For this model, the second-order intensity correlation function g(2)() has been shown to exhibit photon antibunching, sub-Poissonian photon number distributions, and other nonclassical effects.1 In this paper, analytic results are presented for g(2)() for both the transmitted and fluorescent light fields when broadband squeezed light is injected into the cavity. Effects of the squeezing on nonclassical behavior is examined.

Production of nonclassical states of a cavity field

Fam Le Kien

We derive the exact solution of the evolution equation for the density matrix of the field in a lossless micromaser cavity with the injected atoms prepared in their ground state. The time development of photon statistics and of the fluctuations in the field quadratures is analytically and numerically investigated. It is shown that a squeezed state with sub-Poissonian photon statistics can be created at the onset of evolution.

Photon-number-state generation with a single two-level atom in a cavity: a proposal

P. Domokos, M. Brune, J. M. Raimond +2 more

A single two-level atom can be used to prepare an arbitrary photon number state (Fock state) in a high Q cavity . The atom undergoes a controlled succession of interactions with two cavity modes. One of them contains a coherent field. The atom transfers photons one by one from this field to the initially empty second mode. The scheme can be extended to prepare a quantum superposition of the vacuum with a Fock state, a highly non-classical situation. We discuss the feasibility of the experiment with our present Rydberg-atom cavity QED set-up.

Generation of nonlinear coherent states in a coherently pumped micromaser under intensity-dependent Jaynes-Cummings model

M. H. Naderi, M. Soltanolkotabi, R. Roknizadeh

In this paper the possibility of generating nonlinear coherent states of the radiation field in a micromaser is explored. It is shown that these states can be provided in a lossless micromaser cavity under the weak Jaynes-Cummings interaction with intensity-dependent coupling of large number of individually injected two-level atoms in a coherent superposition of the upper and lower states. In particular, we show that the so-called nonlinear squeezed vacuum and nonlinear squeezed first excited states, as well as the even and odd nonlinear coherent states can be generated in the presence of two-photon transitions.

Nonclassical properties of a deformed atom-cavity field state

Naveen Kumar, Deepak Deepak, Arpita Chatterjee

We analyse here a nonclassical state produced by an atom-cavity field interaction. The two-level atom is passed through the single-mode electromagnetic cavity field. By deforming the field operators and introducing nonlinearity to the classic Jaynes–Cummings model, we explore the system in respect of a nonlinear Hamiltonian. Assuming that the atom is in an excited state and the field is in a coherent state initially, the analytic expression for the state vector of the entire system state vector is obtained. With the help of the derived state vector, we calculate the photon number distribution, Mandel's QM parameter, Wigner function, anti-bunching, squeezing properties and Q function etc.
