Rotating spin-1 bosons in the lowest Landau level

J. W. Reijnders, F. J. M. van Lankvelt, Kareljan Schoutens +1 more

We present results for the ground states of a system of spin-1 bosons in a rotating trap. We focus on the dilute, weakly interacting regime, and restrict the bosons to the quantum states in the lowest Landau level (LLL) in the plane (disk), sphere, or torus geometries. We map out parts of the zero-temperature phase diagram, using both exact quantum ground states and LLL mean-field configurations. For the case of a spin-independent interaction we present exact quantum ground states at angular momentum $L<~N.$ For general values of the interaction parameters, we present mean-field studies of general ground states at slow rotation and of lattices of vortices and skyrmions at higher rotation rates. Finally, we discuss quantum Hall liquid states at ultrahigh rotation.

Vortices and phase transitions of interacting bosons in a rotating lattice ring

Qi Zhou

We investigate the ground state properties of the repulsive interacting bosons in an one dimensional rotating lattice ring, and reveal that the superfluid density of the system and the mass current it can carry in the rotating coordinate are periodic functions of the velocity of the lattice. In the weakly interacting limit, the vortices are generated at the critical velocities, and in the strongly interacting limit, the phase twist of the bosons induced by the rotating lattice manifests the superfluid density and drive the system to undergo phase transitions between the superfluid and Mott insulator.

Occurrence of high-lying rotational bands in the interacting boson model

Michal Macek, Jan Dobeš, Pavel Cejnar

We observe an adiabatic separation of collective rotations built upon a subset of intrinsic vibrational states within the interacting boson model (IBM) in the parameter domains corresponding to axially deformed ground state. The effect is not limited only to the low-lying states and closely follows the variation of quantum and classical measures of regularity. It leads to the existence of rotational bands even close to the highest accessible energies in specific regions within the IBM symmetry triangle. We propose a more general effect of regular intrinsic dynamics on the adiabatic separation of intrinsic and collective motion.
