Simultaneous quantum state exchange or transfer between two sets of cavities and generation of multiple Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pairs via a superconducting coupler qubit

Chui‐Ping Yang, Qi-Ping Su, Shi-Biao Zheng +1 more

We propose an approach to simultaneously perform quantum state exchange or transfer between two sets of cavities, each containing $N$ cavities, by using only one superconducting coupler qubit. The quantum states to be exchanged or transferred can be arbitrary pure or mixed states and entangled or nonentangled. The operation time does not increase with the number of cavities, and there is no need of applying classic pulses during the entire operation. Moreover, the approach can be also applied to realize quantum state exchange or transfer between two sets of qubits, such as that between two multi-qubit quantum registers. We further show that the present proposal can be used to simultaneously generate multiple Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pairs of photons or qubits, which are important in quantum communication. The method can be generalized to other systems by using different types of physical qubit as a coupler to accomplish the same task.

Leakage-protected idle operation of a triangular exchange-only spin qubit

Joseph D. Broz, Jesse C. Hoke, Edwin Acuna +1 more

We characterize the coherence of a triangular exchange-only (EO) spin qubit operated at a leakage-protected idle (LPI) point. The triangular geometry enables independent control of all three pairwise exchange interactions, and the LPI condition occurs when these couplings are turned on simultaneously and tuned to equal strength. In this configuration, the exchange interaction induces an energy gap $E_g = 3J/2$ that suppresses leakage from the computational subspace while leaving the qubit state unaffected. We develop procedures to calibrate the LPI point and measure $E_g$, and use these to characterize the qubit dephasing time over a broad range of gap energies. While operating with large always-on exchange couplings exposes the qubit to charge noise, we find that $\tilde{T}_2^*$ still exceeds that of conventional exchange-only spin qubits for $E_g/h < 60$ MHz. The precise control of simultaneous, all-to-all connected exchange demonstrated here presents a natural path towards improving the performance of EO qubits and also enables novel qubit encodings.

Fast Quantum Gates for Exchange-Only Qubits Using Simultaneous Exchange Pulses

Irina Heinz, Felix Borjans, Matthew Curry +6 more

The benefit of exchange-only qubits compared to other spin-qubit types is the universal control using only voltage-controlled exchange interactions between neighboring spins. As a compromise, qubit operations have to be constructed from nonorthogonal rotation axes of the Bloch sphere and result in rather long pulsing sequences. This paper aims to develop a faster implementation of single-qubit gates using simultaneous exchange pulses and manifests their potential for the construction of two-qubit gates. We introduce pulse sequences in which single-qubit gates could be executed faster and show that subsequences on three spins in two-qubit gates could be implemented in fewer steps. Our findings can particularly speed up gate sequences for realistic idle times between sequential pulses and we show that this advantage increases with more interconnectivity of the quantum dots. We further demonstrate how a phase operation can introduce a relative phase between the computational and some of the leakage states, which can be advantageous for the construction of two-qubit gates. In addition to our theoretical analysis, we experimentally demonstrate and characterize a simultaneous exchange implementation of X rotations in a Si Ge quantum dot device and compare to the state of the art with sequential exchange pulses.

In this configuration, the exchange interaction induces an energy gap Eg=3J/2E_g = 3J/2Eg=3J/2 that suppresses leakage from the computational subspace while leaving the qubit state unaffected. We develop procedures to calibrate the LPI point and measure EgE_gEg, and use these to characterize the qubit dephasing time over a broad range of gap energies. While operating with large always-on exchange couplings exposes the qubit to charge noise, we find that T~2∗\tilde{T}_2^*T~2∗ still exceeds that of conventional exchange-only spin qubits for Eg/h<60E_g/h < 60Eg/h<60 MHz. The precise control of simultaneous, all-to-all connected exchange demonstrated here presents a natural path towards improving the performance of EO qubits and also enables novel qubit encodings.
