Transport and dynamics on open quantum graphs

Felipe Barra, Pierre Gaspard

We study the classical limit of quantum mechanics on graphs by introducing a Wigner function for graphs. The classical dynamics is compared to the quantum dynamics obtained from the propagator. In particular, we consider extended open graphs whose classical dynamics generate a diffusion process. The transport properties of the classical system are revealed in the scattering resonances and in the time evolution of the quantum system.

Classical phase space crystals in an open environment

Ali Emami Kopaei, Krzysztof Sacha, Lingzhen Guo

It was recently discovered that a crystalline many-body state can exist in the phase space of a closed dynamical system. A phase space crystal can be an anomalous Chern insulator that supports chiral topological transport without breaking physical time-reversal symmetry [L. Guo et al., Phys. Rev. B 105, 094301 (2022)]. In this work, we further study the effects of an open dissipative environment with thermal noise and identify the existence condition of classical phase space crystals in realistic scenarios. By defining a crystal order parameter, we plot the phase diagram in the parameter space of dissipation rate, interaction, and temperature. Our present work paves the way to realize phase space crystals and explore anomalous chiral transport in experiments.

Twin-Space Representation of Classical Mapping Model in the Constraint Phase Space Representation: Numerically Exact Approach to Open Quantum Systems

Jiaji Zhang, Jian Liu, Lipeng Chen

(CPS) has recently been developed to study nonadiabatic dynamics in gas-phase and condensed-phase molecular systems. Although the CPS formulation is exact for describing the discrete (electronic/vibrational/spin) state degrees of freedom (DOFs), when system-bath models in condensed phase are studied, previous works often employ the approximation by discretizing environmental bath DOFs. In this paper, we develop an exact trajectory-based phase space approach by adopting the twin-space (TS) formulation of quantum statistical mechanics, in which the density operator of the reduced system is transformed to the wave function of an expanded system with twice the DOFs. The classical mapping model (CMM) is then used to map the Hamiltonian of the expanded system to its equivalent classical counterpart on CPS. To demonstrate the applicability of the TS-CMM approach, we compare simulated population dynamics and nonlinear spectra for a few benchmark condensed phase system-bath models with those obtained from the hierarchical equations of motion method, which shows that our approach yields accurate dynamics of open quantum systems.
