Two optical signals propagating in a four-level atomic ensemble

Pingping Li

Aim To study signal propagation of in a double-Λ atomic four-level atomic medium. Methods The numerical simulations of the motion equations of the signal field and the atom is used to resolve the problem. Results The numerical simulations show some new effects which two optical signals transmitting in atomic medium bring about. Conclusion Two optical signals can be manipulated in a double-Λ atomic ensemble.

Propagation and amplitude correlation of pairs of intense pulses interacting with a double-Λ system

Elena Cerboneschi, E. Arimondo

The propagation of intense laser pulses through a four-level atomic system in a double-\ensuremath{\Lambda} scheme is examined. Under conditions of adiabatic perturbation of the atomic quantum state, paired pulses with arbitrary shapes establish a correlation between their amplitudes and reach a quasiform-stable regime of propagation. The amplitude correlation is a feature of pulse matching, while the propagation presents the same properties as the so-called adiabatons, predicted and observed in single-\ensuremath{\Lambda} systems. We show that in the double-\ensuremath{\Lambda} scheme the phenomena of pulse matching and adiabaton-type propagation are associated with two distinct propagation normal modes. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

1→N Beam Splitter of the N-Λ atomic Ensemble

Ying Liu

The atomic susceptibilities of the N-Λ atomic ensemble show that the EIT effect not always occur even if the full atomic resonance. The analytical results of the propagation equations exhibit that one beam can be splitter into N beams with different frequencies, where the amplitude and phase can be controlled. Moreover 1→N quantum beam splitter is produced, which can generate some multipartite entangled states.
