Abstract

An ultrahigh resolution photoassociation spectrum of caesium atoms in a magneto-optical trap is presented. Hyperfine structure of the excited state molecule is obtained by using the lock-in method based on modulated cold atoms in this spectrum. Amplitude of resonant lines related to the rotational levels increases with photoassociation laser intensity, and saturation effect of photoassociation of cold atoms is observed in our experiment. The saturation intensity of photoassociation is deduced by fitting the experimental data to a saturation model based on scattering theory. Differences among saturation intensities of different rotational progressions in the ν = 55 vibrational state of the caesium molecular long-range 0 g − state have been found.

The high-resolution photoassociation spectrum of the ultracold cesium molecular 0_u~+ state below the 6S 1/2 + 6P 1/2 limit is presented in this paper. The saturation of the photoassociation scattering probability is observed from the dependence of the trap-loss probability on the photoassociation laser intensity. The corresponding resonant line width is also demonstrated to increase linearly with increasing photoassociation laser intensity. Our experimental data have good consistency with the theoretical saturation model of Bohn and Julienne Bohn J L and Julienne P S 1999 Phys. Rev. A 60 1].

PHOTOASSOCIATIVE SPECTROSCOPY OF $Cs_{2}$ MOLECULE

P. Pillet, A. Fioretti, D. Comparat +5 more

We report the spectroscopy of molecular $1_{g}, 0^{+}_{u}, 0^{-}_{g}$ and $1_{u}$ state potentials below the dissociattion limit $6s^{2}S_{1/2}+6p^{2}P_{3/2}$ by using the molecular photoassociation technique of cold Cs atoms, in a vapor-cell magneto-optical trap. The $1_{g}$ and $0^{+}_{g}$ states are detected by trap losses. The $0^{-}_{g}$ and $1_{u}$ states, which lead to the formation of cold molecules [1], are detected by photoionizing them into $Cs_{2}^{+}$ and detecting with a time-of-flight mass spectrometer, while the $l_{g}$ and $0^{+}_{u}$ states are detected by trap losses. We give the spectra of the whole series $0^{-}_{g}$ and $1_{u}$. The $0^{-}_{g}$ series is analyzed in a RKR approach and the hyperfine structure of the $1_{u}$ series will be discussed. The observed modulation of intensities of the lines is due to Franck Condon factors characterizing the photoassociative transition between the initial state of two free atoms and the finalro-vibrational level. The intensity modulation can give access to the scattering lengths of the ground state. This possibility will be discussed.

Photoionization spectroscopy of excited states of cold caesium dimers

Nadia Bouloufa-Maafa, Elena Favilla, Matthieu Viteau +8 more

Photoionization spectroscopy of cold caesium dimers obtained by photoassociation of cold atoms in a magneto-optical trap is reported here. In particular, we report on the observation and on the spectroscopic analysis of all the excited states that have actually been used for efficient detection of cold molecules stabilized in the triplet ground state. They are: the state connected to the 6s + 6p asymptote, the and (2)3Π g states connected to the 6s + 5d asymptote and finally the state connected to the 6s + 7s asymptote. The detection through these states spans a wide range of laser energies, from 8000 to 16,500 cm−1, obtained with different laser dyes and techniques. Information on the initial distribution of cold molecules among the different vibrational levels of the ground state is also provided. This spectroscopic knowledge is important when conceiving schemes for quantum manipulation, population transfer and optical detection of cold caesium molecules.

[Experimental study of ultralow frequency modulation photoassociation spectrum].

In the present paper, ultracold cesium atoms were obtained in magnetic optical trap using the laser cooling technology. The number of ultracold atoms is 10(7). The temperature of ultracold atoms is about 200 μK and the diameter of the ultracold atoms cloud is about 400 μm. The ultracold cesium molecules of excited states were formed using the photoassociation of ultracold atoms. The resolution of vib-rotational spectrum was studied under different scan rates of photossociation laser in the experiment. The resolution of vib-rotational spectrum becomes high when the scan rate of photossociation laser becomes slow. The cold atoms fluorescence was obtained using the high sensitive avalanche photo detector and the high resolution vib-rotational spectrum of ultracold cesium molecule in its first excited state of with dissociation limit long range state was obtained. The ultracold ground molecule was formed by controlled Raman photoassociation and the photoassociation laser must be locked to atom-molecular hyperfine transitions. The ultracold atoms photoassociation spectrum was modulated using ultra-low frequency. The first-order differential signal was optimized by changing modulation amplitude and modulation frequency. It provides a feedback signal to correct error of the laser. The laser frequency satisfies experimental requirement to form ultracold ground molecules using the controlled Raman photoassociation. This work is important for studies of ultracold atoms and molecules in confined space.

High resolution photoassociation spectra of an ultracold Cs2long-range 0u+(6S1/2+ 6P1/2) state

Peng Chen, Yuqing Li, Yichi Zhang +4 more

In this paper, ultracold cesium molecules are formed through photoassociation technology, which is carried out in a magneto-optical trap. High resolution photoassociaion spectra with the rotational progressions up to J = 7 are obtained. Three rovibrational levels of the long-range 0 u + state of Cs 2 below the (6S 1/2 + 6P 1/2 ) dissociation limit are specifically investigated. By fitting their binding energy intervals to the non-rigid rotational model, the rotational constant of the long-range 0 u + state is determined. A proportional dependence of the value of the rotational constant on the vibrational quantum number is demonstrated.
