Functional analysis of squeezed states

Abstract

A representation is introduced in which a state of a radiation field is characterized by a function of a parameter which can be any arbitrary number. This functional representation of a field state offers a convenient means of classifying squeezed states and calculating their variances. Some new squeezed states are found from an analysis based on this representation.

Harmonic oscillator interaction with squeezed radiation

V. V. Dodonov, Dmitri E. Nikonov

Although the problem of electromagnetic radiation by a quantum harmonic oscillator is considered in textbooks on quantum mechanics, some of its aspects have remained unclear until now. By this, we mean that usually the initial quantum states of both the oscillator and the field are assumed to be characterized by a definite energy level of the oscillator and definite occupation numbers of the field modes. In connection with growing interest in squeezed states, it would be interesting to analyze the general case when the initial states of both subsystems are arbitrary superpositions of energy eigenstates. This problem was considered in other work, where the power of the spontaneous emission was calculated in the case of an arbitrary oscillator's initial state, but the field was initially in a vacuum state. In the present article, we calculate the rate of the oscillator average energy, squeezing, and correlation parameter change under the influence of an arbitrary external radiation field. Some other problems relating to the interaction between quantum particles (atoms) or oscillators where the electromagnetic radiation is an arbitrary (in particular squeezed) state were investigated.

Mean Number and Number Variance of Squeezed Coherent Photons In a Thermal State of Photons

Moorad Alexanian

We consider the equilibrium thermal state of photons and determine the mean number and number variance of squeezed coherent photons. We use an integral representation for electro-magnetic radiation applicable both to systems in equilibrium and to systems in nonequilibrium to determine the spectral function of the radiation. The system considered is in thermal equilibrium and we find that the squeezed coherent photons are at a higher temperature than the photons themselves. Also, as expected, the mean number of squeezed coherent photons is greater than that of photons.

Analysis of Photon Statistics and Quadrature Variances in a Three-level Cascade Configuration With Squeezed Vacuum Radiation in Bad Cavity

Adagn Addisu Dabulo

Abstract This study investigates a three-level laser system featuring a cascade-configured atom interacting with squeezed vacuum radiation within a lossy cavity, where the cavity modes are linked to a vacuum reservoir. By employing steady-state solutions derived from the expectation values of atomic operators and quantum Langevin equations for the cavity mode operators, we have calculated key quantum optical properties, including the mean photon number, normalized second-order correlation functions, and quadrature variances for cavity modes a 1 , a 2 , and their combined two-mode light. The findings reveal that the mean photon number of the two-mode light equals the sum of the individual mode photon numbers. Additionally, the influence of spontaneous and stimulated emissions, along with the squeeze parameter, is shown to enhance the mean photon numbers of the cavity modes. The results further suggest that the cavity modes exhibit thermal light characteristics, with the mean photon number of mode a 1 exceeding that of mode a 2 , as depicted in the analyzed graphs and equations.
