Fourier transform chronometry of short optical pulses

We present a short optical pulse envelope measurement based on an inverted Fourier transform technique, that does not require temporally or spectrally resolved detection. We experimentally demonstrate its feasibility for classical and quantum light.

Generating and detecting short-duration pulses of squeezed light

Mode-locked lasers provide a train of high-intensity light pulses that can be used to pump nonlinear media in order to produce squeezed light. The squeezed light produced would consist of a train of short-duration pulses. It is shown here that a homodyne detector using a pulsed local oscillator can be used to observe the squeezing even when the response time of the photodetector is much longer than the local oscillator or squeezed light pulse width.

Non-classical photon statistics in smooth-pulse resonance fluorescence

Mirosław Florjańczyk

The resonance fluorescence of a two-level system irradiated by a smooth laser pulse is investigated. The author calculates higher-order correlation functions of the electromagnetic field explicitly in the limit of a very short pulse and demonstrate the presence of both antibunching and squeezing of the scattered light.
