NONBINARY QUANTUM CODES DERIVED FROM GROUP CHARACTER CODES

Abstract

Most of quantum codes have been constructed by using classical linear codes over finite field. However, little is known about the construction of quantum codes via group character codes. In this work, we present the constructions of nonbinary quantum and asymmetric quantum codes based on group character codes, and give explicit parameters for infinite families of nonbinary quantum codes and asymmetric quantum codes. Furthermore, we present families of optimal quantum codes which derived from group character codes.

NONBINARY QUANTUM CODES DERIVED FROM REPEATED-ROOT CYCLIC CODES

Jianfa Qian, LINA ZHANG

Many good quantum error-correcting codes were constructed from cyclic codes. However, it is a difficult problem to determine the true minimum distance of quantum cyclic codes for large length n. In this work, we construct nonbinary quantum cyclic codes and asymmetric quantum cyclic codes that are derived from repeated-root cyclic codes for an arbitrary length ps, and determine the true minimum distance of all those codes. Some proposed quantum cyclic codes are optimal. Additionally, some proposed asymmetric quantum cyclic codes have better parameters than the ones available in the literature.

Asymmetric quantum BCH codes

Salah A. Aly

Recently, the theory of quantum error control codes has been extended to include quantum codes over asymmetric quantum channels - qubit-flip and phase-shift errors may have equal or different probabilities. Previous work in constructing quantum error control codes has focused on code constructions for symmetric quantum channels. In this paper we establish a method to construct asymmetric quantum codes based on classical codes. We derive, once again, families of asymmetric quantum codes from classical BCH and RS codes over finite fields. Particularly, we present interesting asymmetric quantum codes based on nonprimitive narrow-sense BCH codes with parameters [[n, k, dz/dx]]qfor certain values of code lengths, dimensions, and various minimum distance. Finally, our constructions are well explained by an illustrative example.

On the construction of optimal asymmetric quantum codes

Liqi Wang, Shixin Zhu

Constacyclic codes are important classes of linear codes that have been applied to the construction of quantum codes. Six new families of asymmetric quantum codes derived from constacyclic codes are constructed in this paper. Moreover, the constructed asymmetric quantum codes are optimal and different from the codes available in the literature.

Nonbinary Stabilizer Codes Over Finite Fields

Avanti Ulhas Ketkar, Andreas Klappenecker, Santhosh Kumar +1 more

One formidable difficulty in quantum communication and computation is to protect information-carrying quantum states against undesired interactions with the environment. To address this difficulty, many good quantum error-correcting codes have been derived as binary stabilizer codes. Fault-tolerant quantum computation prompted the study of nonbinary quantum codes, but the theory of such codes is not as advanced as that of binary quantum codes. This paper describes the basic theory of stabilizer codes over finite fields. The relation between stabilizer codes and general quantum codes is clarified by introducing a Galois theory for these objects. A characterization of nonbinary stabilizer codes over$bf F_q$in terms of classical codes over$ bf F_q^2$is provided that generalizes the well-known notion of additive codes over$ bf F_4$of the binary case. This paper also derives lower and upper bounds on the minimum distance of stabilizer codes, gives several code constructions, and derives numerous families of stabilizer codes, including quantum Hamming codes, quadratic residue codes, quantum Melas codes, quantum Bose–Chaudhuri–Hocquenghem (BCH) codes, and quantum character codes. The puncturing theory by Rains is generalized to additive codes that are not necessarily pure. Bounds on the maximal length of maximum distance separable stabilizer codes are given. A discussion of open problems concludes this paper.

Nonbinary quantum cyclic and subsystem codes over asymmetrically-decohered quantum channels

Salah A. Aly, Alexei Ashikhmin

Quantum computers theoretically are able to solve certain problems more quickly than any deterministic or probabilistic computers. A quantum computer exploits the rules of quantum mechanics to speed up computations. However, one has to mitigate the resulting noise and decoherence effects to avoid computational errors in order to successfully build quantum computers. In this paper, we construct asymmetric quantum codes to protect quantum information over asymmetric quantum channels, Pr Z ≥ Pr X. Two generic methods are presented to derive asymmetric quantum cyclic codes using the generator polynomials and defining sets of classical cyclic codes. Consequently, the methods allow us to construct several families of quantum BCH, RS, and RM codes over asymmetric quantum channels. Finally, the methods are used to construct families of asymmetric subsystem codes.

Nonbinary Quantum Codes from Two-Point Divisors on Hermitian Curves

Martianus Frederic Ezerman, Radoslav Kirov

Sarvepalli and Klappenecker showed how classical one-point codes on the Hermitian curve can be used to construct quantum codes. Homma and Kim determined the parameters of a larger family of codes, the two-point codes. In quantum error-correction, the observed presence of asymmetry in some quantum channels led to the study of asymmetric quantum codes (AQECCs) where we no longer assume that the different types of errors are equiprobable. This paper considers quantum codes constructed from the two-point codes. In the asymmetric case, we show strict improvements over all possible finite fields for a range of designed distances. We produce large dimension pure AQECC and small dimension impure AQECC that have better parameters than AQECC from one-point codes. Numerical results for the Hermitian curves over F16 and F64 are used to illustrate the gain.
