Abstract

The correspondence between the $\mathrm{SD}$ fermion and $\mathrm{sd}$ boson spaces is studied. A procedure is discussed to derive boson images of fermion operators. Spectra in the two spaces are compared. $E2$ operators are also studied.

Theory of fermion to boson mappings: old wine in new bottles

Joseph N. Ginocchio, Calvin W. Johnson

After a brief review of various mappings of fermion pairs to bosons, we rigorously derive a general approach. Following the methods of Marumori and Otsuka, Arima, and Iachello, our approach begins with mapping states and constructs boson representations that preserve fermion matrix elements. In several cases these representations factor into finite, Hermitian boson images times a projection or norm operator that embodies the Pauli principle. We pay particular attention to truncated boson spaces, and describe general methods for constructing Hermitian and approximately finite boson image Hamiltonians, including effective operator theory to account for excluded states. This method is akin to that of Otsuka, Arima, and Iachello introduced in connection with the Interacting Boson Model, but is more rigorous, general, and systematic.

Exact, finite, and Hermitian fermion-pair-to-boson mapping

Calvin W. Johnson, Joseph N. Ginocchio

We discuss a general, exact (in that matrix elements are preserved) mapping of fermion pairs to bosons, and find a simple factorization of the boson representation of fermion operators. This leads to boson Hamiltonians that are Hermitian and finite, with no more than two-body operators if the fermion Hamiltonian has at most two-body operators, and one-body boson transition operators if the fermion transition operator is one-body.

Fermion to boson mappings revisited

Joseph N. Ginocchio, Calvin W. Johnson

We briefly review various mappings of fermion pairs to bosons, including those based on mapping operators, such as Belyaev-Zelevinskii, and those on mapping states, such as Marumori; in particular we consider the work of Otsuka-Arima-Iachello, aimed at deriving the Interacting Boson Model. We then give a rigorous and unified description of state-mapping procedures which allows one to systematically go beyond Otsuka-Arima-Iachello and related approaches, along with several exact results.

Bosonic Treatment of Pairing Correlations in a Solvable Many-Level Model

D. Gambacurta

We discuss two extensions of RPA based on a boson formalism and report on some applications within an exactly solvable many‐level pairing model. By making use of a Marumori‐type mapping procedure, we preliminary define the boson image of the fermion operators of interest and, in particular, of the model Hamiltonian. This includes two and four‐boson terms. We therefore construct renormalized RPA‐type equations in correspondence with different expansions of the boson operators. The approximate calculations are compared with the exact ones and with those obtained within RPA and Self Consistent RPA. We find that it is possible to improve considerably upon RPA by still keeping the formalism simple enough to be applied in more realistic cases without a too serious computational effort.

R.V. Dzholos, V. Rybarska

Different methods for constructing boson represnetations of fermion operator are described. Examples of the applications of these methods for determining the different characteristics of nuclei are given. (auth)
