New Interpretation of the Scalar Product in Hilbert Space

Abstract

A new interpretation of the scalar product in Hilbert space was presented recently by Aharonov, Albert, and Au. Here the essential equivalence between such a view-point and Wigner's exact reformulation of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics using distribution functions is pointed out.

Geometrization of Quantum Mechanics and the New Interpretation of the Scalar Product in Hilbert Space

Eduard Prugovečki

It is shown that the new interpretation of the scalar product in Hilbert space recently proposed by Aharanov, Albert, and Au is in fact the one underlying the stochastic phase-space formulation of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics. The extrapolation of this interpretation to the relativistic domain and its relationship to the program of geometrizing quantum theory and quantizing space-time are discussed.

New Interpretation of the Scalar Product in Hilbert Space

Yakir Aharonov, David Z. Albert, C. K. Au

The inner product of two states in Hilbert space is interpreted in terms of a relationship between two or more distinct physical systems. This point of view suggests a generalized notion of measurement, within which the familiar types of measurement occur as special cases. A variety of novel measuring procedures are described, which relate overcomplete sets of states for a given system to complete sets for some larger system (of which the smaller system forms a part).

NON-HERMITIAN OSCILLATOR-LIKE HAMILTONIANS AND λ-COHERENT STATES REVISITED

Jules Beckers, N. Debergh, José F. Cariñena +1 more

Previous λ-deformed non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with respect to the usual scalar product of Hilbert spaces dealing with harmonic oscillator-like developments are (re)considered with respect to a new scalar product in order to take into account their property of self-adjointness. The corresponding deformed λ-states lead to new families of coherent states according to the DOCS, AOCS and MUCS points of view.
