Exactly solvable models for non-Hermitian systems under nonadiabatic quench dynamics

Kangyi Hu, Menghua Deng, Fuxiang Li

Abstract Due to the nonunitary time evolution and possibly complex energy eigenvalues in non-Hermitian systems, it is still under debate how to properly deal with the dynamics of time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. Recently a quantum metric framework has been proposed to study the dynamics of generated defects of a non-Hermitian system under linear quench. Here, we provide an explicit expression for the endowed Hamiltonian under quantum metric for a general two-level non-Hermitian system. Then we propose two exactly solvable models for the study of nonadiabatic dynamics of non-Hermitian systems, and analyze the defect production using the metric method. We find that, in contrast to the direct normalization method, the metric method can reproduce the symmetry of generated defects. The power-law scaling of generated defects with respect to quench time is also obtained.

Cooperative few-level fluctuations in coupled quantum systems

H. Körner, G. Mahler

Fluctuations and noise are typical features of mesoscopic systems. Here we study the quantum-stochastic dynamics of an interacting network of local few-level subsystems. Controlled by the environment, this network is shown to exhibit a large repertoire of different behavioral patterns, including uncorrelated and correlated ``quantum jumps'': Such cooperation should be generic for certain networks and expected, e.g., also for various optically driven quasimolecular structures. When applied to a defect network controlling the current through a small tunnel junction, large-amplitude two-level current fluctuations appear, in agreement with experiment.

Localization in a Driven Two-Level Dynamics

Frank Großmann, Peter Hänggi A

A periodically driven two-state dynamics, being analysed within the Floquet formalism, exhibits localization of the amplitude dynamics in an infinite frequency range, extending from the bare tunnel splitting up to infinity. In contrast, the suppression of tunnelling in a driven symmetric double well is restricted to a limited frequency regime, extending from the bare tunnel splitting up to the first resonance frequency with higher-lying states. With the amplitude dynamics of a periodically driven two-level system not being restricted to describe coherent tunnelling transport only, the localization phenomenon within the infinite frequency range does allow for novel applications for systems in strong laser fields.
