Abstract

The Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization procedure for the Grassmann variables is discussed. Applications to the problem of a spin system in a constant magnetic field and to a Dirac particle in a scalar linear potential are presented.

Clifford numbers from Bohr–Sommerfeld quantization of Grassmann-variant systems

Sumiyoshi Abe, Tayurskii Dmitrii Albertovich

Bohr–Sommerfeld quantization is discussed for Grassmann-variant fermionic degrees of freedom. It is shown that this procedure applied to a Grassmannian dynamical variable of the Majorana type gives rise to a Clifford number, shedding further light on the quantum-classical correspondence for fermions.

Bohr-Sommerfeld Quantization Rules Revisited: The Method of Positive Commutators

Abdelwaheb Ifa, Louati, Hanen, Michel Rouleux

We revisit the well known Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule (BS) of order 2 for a self-adjoint 1-D h-Pseudo-differential operator within the algebraic and microlocal framework of Helffer and Sjöstrand; BS holds precisely when the Gram matrix consisting of scalar products of some WKB solutions with respect to the " flux norm " is not invertible. The interest of this procedure lies in its possible generalization to matrix-valued Hamiltonians, like Bogoliubov-de Gennes Hamiltonian. It is simplified in the scalar case by using action-angle variables.

Quantization of pseudo-hermitian systems

Mario Cesar Baldiotti, R. Fresneda

Abstract This work is a generalization of (Raimundo et al 2021 Phys. Rev. A 103 022201) to Grassmann algebras of arbitrary dimensions. Here we present a covariant quantization scheme for pseudoclassical theories focused on non-hermitian quantum mechanics. The quantization maps canonically related pseudoclassical theories to equivalent quantum realizations in arbitrary dimensions. We apply the formalism to the problem of two coupled spins with Heisenberg interaction.

Quantization of pseudoclassical systems in the Schrödinger realization

Theodore J. Allen, Donald Spector, Christopher Wilson

We examine the quantization of pseudoclassical dynamical systems, models that have classically anticommuting variables, in the Schrödinger picture. We quantize these systems, which can be viewed as classical models of particle spin, using the generalized Gupta–Bleuler method as well as the reduced phase space method in even dimensions. With minimal modifications, the standard constructions of Schrödinger quantum mechanics of constrained systems work for pseudoclassical systems. We generalize the standard Schrödinger norm and implement the correct adjointness properties of observables and constraints. We construct the state space corresponding to spinors as physical wave functions of anticommuting variables, finding that there are superselection sectors in both the physical and ghost subspaces. The physical states are isomorphic to those of the Dirac–Kähler formulation of fermions, though the inner product in Dirac–Kähler theory is not equivalent to ours.

Semiclassical multicomponent wave function

MAXIM V. MOSTOVOY

A consistent method for obtaining the semiclassical multicomponent wave function for any value of adiabatic parameter is discussed and illustrated by examining the motion of a neutral particle in a nonuniform magnetic field. The method generalizes the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule to multicomponent wave functions, and is applied here to the spin-boson model.

Semiclassical theory of spin-orbit coupling

Robert G. Littlejohn, William G. Flynn

Newly developed methods for finding the semiclassical or WKB eigenvalues and eigenfunctions for vector wave fields are applied to spinning particles moving in central potentials subject to spin-orbit forces. The new methods are like the familiar Bohr-Sommerfeld or Einstein-Brillouin-Keller quantization methods for scalar wave fields, but involve additional issues relating to Berry's phase, gauge structures, and monopolelike singularities. All these extra issues occur in the asymptotics of spin-orbit coupling. The role of angular momentum and conservation laws is particularly interesting, due to the role played by gauge fields in the classical-quantum correspondence. The work presented is a contribution to ongoing semiclassical studies of shell structure in nuclei and other fermion systems such as metal clusters, as well as an example of the general methods of semiclassical vector wave quantization.
