Abstract

We investigate numerically the distribution functions of photon number and phase in third-harmonic generation in the region of instability. It is shown that in this system the quantum superposition states for the third harmonic and fundamental mode can appear.

Fluctuations in the number of photons above the bifurcation point in the process of third harmonic generation

S. T. Gevorkyan, M. S. Gevorkyan

The quantum fluctuation of the number of photons of the fundamental mode and of the third harmonic in the process of intracavity generation of the third harmonic in the region of unstable behavior of the system is studied. The distribution functions of the number of photons of interacting modes, as well as the function of the joint distribution of the number of photons of the fundamental mode and of the third harmonic, are calculated in the positive P -representation.

Critical phenomena in the temporal behaviour of phase in second harmonic generation

S. T. Gevorkyan, W. H. Maloyan

We investigate numerically the probability distribution density dynamics of phase in second harmonic generation in the region of instability. It is shown that in this system the quantum macroscopic Schrödinger-cat-like states of both modes can appear. The behaviour of the system moving through the critical point is also illustrated.

Quantum Dynamics of Interacting Modes in Intracavity Third Harmonic Generation Process

M. S. Gevorgyan, S. T. Gevorgyan

We study the quantum dynamics of the number of photons of the interacting modes, the dynamics of the quantum entropy, and the Wigner function of the states of the fundamental and the third harmonic modes for the process of intracavity third harmonic generation. It is shown that the quantum dynamics of the system strongly depends on the external resonant perturbation of the fundamental mode and on the coupling coefficient of the interacting modes. In the region of long interaction times, the modes of the field can be both in stable and in unstable states—depending on the above-mentioned quantities. In the paper, we also investigate the dynamics of transition of the system from stable to unstable states.

Quantum state evolution of the fundamental mode in the process of second-harmonic generation

Sergei P. Nikitin, Anatoly Viktorovich Masalov

By the computer calculations of the quasiprobability distribution the authors have shown that in a process of second-harmonic generation at phase matching conditions the quantum state of the fundamental mode evolves into a superposition of two macroscopically distinguishable states. Creation of the superposition destroys the squeezing formed in the initial stage of the evolution of the fundamental mode.

Quantum dynamics of formation of an unstable field state in the process of intracavity third-harmonic generation

S. T. Gevorkyan, M. S. Gevorkyan

The dynamics of the Wigner functions and quantum entropy of the fundamental and third-harmonic modes is studied for the process of intracavity third-harmonic generation. It is shown that quantum dynamics of the system strongly depends on the coupling coefficient of the interacting modes. The dynamics of the transition of the system from a stable to an unstable state is investigated.
