Abstract

We investigate the squeezing properties of a trapped ion in a standing-wave laser. Our results show that the squeezing of a trapped ion in the standing-wave laser is dependent on its position in the latter, the detuning parameter and the initial average phonon number.

Squeezing properties of a trapped ion in the running-wave laser beyond the Lamb–Dicke limit

Chang-Ning Pan, Mao-Fa Fang, Zheng Xiao-Juan +1 more

Beyond the Lamb–Dicke limit, this paper investigates the squeezing properties of the trapped ion in the travelling-wave laser. It shows that the squeezing properties of the trapped ion in the travelling-wave laser are strongly affected by the sideband number k, the Lamb–Dicke parameter η and the initial average phonon number.

Influence of Squeezing Effects on Nonlinear of a Trapped Ion

Jian Li

Starting from the Jaynes-Cummings(J-C) model describing the interaction of a trapped ion with a standing wave laser field,we derive the interaction Hamiltonian on the nonlinear J-C model of the trapped ion excited resonantly with single quantum vibrational mode. After solving the time dependent states of this model,we study the ion centroid motion of squeezing effects by utilizing the ion numerical model. It is shown that the ion squeezing effects is related with the Lamb-Dicke parameter and the position of the ion in the standing wave laser field.

Position-dependent dynamics of a trapped ion in a standing wave laser

Mao-Fa Fang

We have investigated the position-dependent dynamics of a trapped ion in a standing wave laser by transforming it to the Jaynes-Cummings-type system under the Lamb-Dicke limit. A variety of novel phenomena are exhibited, e.g. periodic collapse and revival features and long-time scaled revivals of the ionic inversion, depending on its position in the standing wave. Our result provides a way of producing a system equivalent to the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model in the trapped ion system, with its exact periodicities.

Laser cooling of trapped ions in a squeezed vacuum

J. I. Cirac, P. Zoller

Laser cooling a trapped ion damped by an electromagnetic reservoir in a squeezed-vacuum state is investigated. The cooling rate and the final temperature are given for the case in which the ion is located at the node of a laser standing wave, on resonance with its internal transition. In particular, we find that the ion can have final temperatures below the Dopper limit.

Squeezing in resonance fluorescence from a trapped ion

R. L. de Matos Filho, W. Vogel

Squeezing of the fluorescence light from a single trapped and laser-cooled ion is studied for atomic localization conditions far from the Lamb-Dicke limit. The quantum center-of-mass motion significantly influences the quantum fluctuations of the fluorescence light field. Both for traveling- and standing-wave excitation squeezing is found to depend on the observation direction.
