Abstract

We have discussed the time evolution along with the nonclassicality phenomena of a system containing a vee-type three-level atom interacting with a bimodal electromagnetic field. A general expression for the atomic inversion is presented. It is found that the model undergoes Rabi oscillation. The total noise of the output state is measured.

INTERACTION OF A THREE-LEVEL ATOM WITH A SINGLE-MODE FIELD IN A TWO PHOTON RESONANT CAVITY

Debraj Nath, Pradip Das

In this paper we discuss an extension of Jaynes–Cummings model by adding a further atomic level to support a second resonance and cooperative effects in multi-atom systems. A successive passage of a three-level atom in the V configuration interacting with one quantized mode of electromagnetic field in a cavity will be considered to study atomic inversion and entropy evolution of the state.

Dynamics of an atom in an n -mode radiation field

Papri Saha

In this paper we study the evolution properties along with inversion phenomena of the resonance interactions of a single two-level atom with $n$-mode cavity fields. A general expression of the state for the $n$-mode field is presented. It is found that this atom-field interaction model obeys the Rabi oscillation.

DYNAMICS OF TWO ATOMS COUPLED TO A CAVITY FIELD

José Antonio Roversi, A. Vidiella-Barranco, H. M. Moya-Cessa

We investigate the interaction of two two-level atoms with a single mode cavity field. One of the atoms is exactly at resonance with the field, while the other is well far from resonance and hence is treated in the dispersive limit. We find that the presence of the non-resonant atom produces a shift in the Rabi frequency of the resonant atom, as if it was detuned from the field. We focus on the discussion of the evolution of the state purity of each atom.

Phase properties and atomic coherent trapping in the system of a three-level atom interacting with a bimodal field

Jin-sheng Peng, Gao‐xiang Li, Peng Zhou

We have studied the time evolution of the phase operators of the radiation field in the system containing a ssV-type three-level atom interacting with the bimodal field by means of the phase formalism given by Pegg and Barnett [J. Mod. Opt. 36, 7 (1989); Phys. Rev. A 39, 1665 (1989)]. That the atomic coherent trapping will happen in an appropriate initial state of the system has also been verified.

Atom–field interaction – semiclassical theory

Marlan O. Scully, Muhammad Suhail Zubairy

One of the simplest nontrivial problems involving the atom–field interaction is the coupling of a two-level atom with a single mode of the electromagnetic field. A two-level atom description is valid if the two atomic levels involved are resonant or nearly resonant with the driving field, while all other levels are highly detuned. Under certain realistic approximations, it is possible to reduce this problem to a form which can be solved exactly; allowing essential features of the atom-field interaction to be extracted. In this chapter we present a semiclassical theory of the interaction of a single two-level atom with a single mode of the field in which the atom is treated as a quantum two-level system and the field is treated classically. A fully quantum mechanical theory will be presented in Chapter 6. A two-level atom is formally analogous to a spin-1/2 system with two possible states. In the dipole approximation, when the field wavelength is larger than the atomic size, the atom–field interaction problem is mathematically equivalent to a spin-1/2 particle interacting with a time-dependent magnetic field. Just as the spin-1/2 system undergoes the so-called Rabi oscillations between the spin-up and spin-down states under the action of an oscillating magnetic field, the two-level atom also undergoes optical Rabi oscillations under the action of the driving electromagnetic field. These oscillations are damped if the atomic levels decay. An understanding of this simple model of the atom–field interaction enables us to consider more complicated problems involving an ensemble of atoms interacting with the field.

QUANTUM ENTANGLEMENT STATE OF NON-EQUIDISTANT THREE-LEVEL ATOM IN INTERACTION WITH BIMODAL CAVITY FIELD ê

N. A. Enaki, Nellu Ciobanu

A new trapping effect of three-level atom in interaction with bimodal cavity field is proposed. The problem consists in the possibility of realization of initial separate state of atom and electromagnetic field after the flying time through the cavity field. The quantum properties of bimodal field, which satisfy the reversible conditions for the atom flying through the cavity, were studied.
