From block-spin expectation values to renormalized couplings

Abstract

We show that given a set of expectation values one can estimate the underlying probability distribution by use of ``Schwinger-Dyson equations.'' The method can be applied to obtain the evolution of coupling constants in Monte Carlo renormalization-group calculations. Some results for three- and four-dimensional scalar theory are presented briefly.

A Simple Method of Monte Carlo Renormalization Group

Macoto Kikuchi, Yutaka Okabe

We propose a simple method of Monte Carlo renormalization group which is based on the transformation properties of the thermodynamic quantities under the block-spin transformation. We apply the method to the three-dimensional Ising model.

Monte Carlo Renormalization-Group Transformations in Momentum Space

Robert H. Swendsen

Methods of extending Monte Carlo renormalization-group calculations to include transformations in momentum space are proposed to investigate systems for which block spins are difficult or impossible to construct---such systems include fluids, for which particles are not confined to a lattice, three-dimensional fcc antiferromagnets, and lattice gauge models in four dimensions. The feasibility of these transformations is demonstrated by calculations in two and three dimensions.

Microcanonical Renormalization Group

Michael J. Creutz, Andreas Gocksch, Michael C. Ogilvie +1 more

We argue that microcanonical Monte Carlo techniques can provide direct information on the values of renormalized coupling constants in numerical renormalization-group studies. The method is tested on SU(2) lattice gauge theory with fundamental and adjoint couplings and on the two-dimensional O(3) Heisenberg model.

Monte Carlo calculation of renormalized coupling parameters. II. d=3 Ising model

Robert H. Swendsen

The majority-rule, block-spin, renormalization-group transformation for the $d=3$ Ising model is studied, with the use of a recently developed technique for calculating renormalized coupling parameters from a single Monte Carlo simulation. Renormalization-group trajectories and the approximate fixed point are calculated. Improvements in the convergence of the Monte Carlo renormalization-group calculations of critical exponents are discussed.

The critical renormalized coupling constants in the symmetric phase of the three dimensional Ising model

Using Renormalization-Group Ideas in Monte Carlo Sampling

Kevin E. Schmidt

Renormalization-group methods are used to produce a novel Monte Carlo sampling algorithm which alleviates the problem of critical slowing down. The method is applied by means of a Kadanoff block-spin transformation to the one- and two-dimensional Ising models.
