Entangling two qudits of arbitrary dimension through light-atomic Faraday interaction

R. Surmay, V. A. Leonov, E. A. Vashukevich

The paper investigates entangling operations acting on two qudits of arbitrary dimension, with one encoded in the states of a spatially multimode optical field, the other in those of atomic collective spin coherence, both carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM). We demonstrate the generation of a wide range of entangling operations within a protocol consisting of two Faraday interactions and a rotation of atomic and light quadratures between them. All generated gates can be represented as rational powers of the d-dimensional gate $SWAP^α_d$. The probabilities of two-qudit transformations are calculated for various dimensions of the logical space and for different entangling powers of the logical gates.

Effective nonlocal parity-dependent couplings in qubit chains

Maximilian Nägele, Christian Schweizer, Federico Roy +1 more

For the efficient implementation of quantum algorithms, practical ways to generate many-body entanglement are a basic requirement. Specifically, coupling multiple qubit pairs at once can be advantageous and may provide multiqubit operations useful in the construction of hardware-tailored algorithms. Here we extend the theory of fractional state transfer and harness the simultaneous coupling of qubits on a chain to engineer a set of nonlocal parity-dependent quantum operations suitable for a wide range of applications. The resulting effective long-range couplings directly implement a parametrizable Trotter-step for Jordan-Wigner fermions, and they can be used for simulations of quantum dynamics, efficient state generation in variational quantum eigensolvers, parity measurements for error-correction schemes, and the generation of efficient multiqubit gates. Moreover, we present numerical simulations of the gate operation in a superconducting quantum circuit architecture, which show a high gate fidelity for realistic experimental parameters.

Scheme for generation of three-photon entangled W state assisted by cross-Kerr nonlinearity and quantum dot

Jino Heo, Changho Hong, Seong Gon Choi +1 more

We represent an optical scheme using cross-Kerr nonlinearities (XKNLs) and quantum dot (QD) within a single-sided optical cavity (QD-cavity system) to generate three-photon entangled W state containing entanglement against loss of one photon of them. To generate W state (three-photon) with robust entanglement against loss of one photon, we utilize effects of optical nonlinearities in XKNLs (as quantum controlled operations) and QD-cavity system (as a parity operation) with linearly optical devices. In our scheme, the nonlinear (XKNL) gate consists of weak XKNLs, quantum bus beams, and photon-number-resolving measurement to realize controlled-unitary gate between two photons while another nonlinear (QD) gate employs interactions of photons and an electron of QD confined within a single-sided optical cavity for implementation of parity gate. Subsequently, for the efficiency and experimental feasibility of our scheme generating W state, we analyze the immunity of the controlled-unitary gate using XKNLs against decoherence effect and reliable performance of parity gate using QD-cavity system.
