Information coding of exciting laser pulses in an optical echo-processor

Abstract

We report the possibility of controlling the distribution of quantum bits within an inhomogeneously broadened line of a resonant transition in recording and transforming information in optical echo-processors. We consider the efficiency of realisation of the elementary logic XOR gate based on a two-pulse excitation of a resonant medium with phase memory. The encoded information is incorporated into the temporal shape of laser pulses in the form of amplitude modulation of an ‘echelon’ of present (‘1’) and absent (‘0’) pulse-codes for obtaining more efficient logic elements that reduce the noise in a quantum communication channel.

Information processes in optical echo holography

L. A. Nefedev, Inna Aleksandrovna Rusanova

A set-theoretical method for studying information processes in resonant media with phase memory is developed. The conversion of the classical information carried by the object laser pulse into the potential (structural) quantum information of the resonant medium that takes place during the recording of a phase echo hologram is studied. It is shown that a resonant medium with phase memory stores quantum information in the form of an information-phase grating (the distribution of qubits within the inhomogeneously broadened line of a resonant transition). The temporal evolution of this grating is studied as a function of the times of reversible and irreversible relaxation of the system.

The Information Coding in the Time Structure of the Object of a Laser Pulse in an Optical Echo Processor

Leonid A. Nefediev, А. Р. Сахбиева

The encoding of information in time intervals of an echelon of laser pulses of an object pulse in the optical echo processor is considered. The measures of information are introduced to describe the transformation of classical information in quantum information. It is shown that in the description of information transformation into quantum information, the most appropriate measure is a measure of quantum information based on the algorithmic information theory.

The correlation of inhomogeneous broadening and the efficiency of data locking in optical echo processors

L. A. Nefedev, G. I. Khakimzyanova

The formation of responses of stimulated photon echo and the efficiency of data locking under the action of a spatially inhomogeneous electric field on a resonance medium are analyzed. It is shown that the action of a spatially inhomogeneous electric field on a resonance medium between the first and second excitation laser pulses leads to the reversible destruction of the phase memory of the medium, which manifests itself in a change in the time-frequency correlation of inhomogeneous broadening. The possibility of controlling the efficiency of data locking by varying the gradient of an external nonuniform electric field is considered.

Phase memory of the three-level system in the presence of external spatially inhomogeneous electric fields

Э. И. Низамова, Leonid A. Nefediev, G.A. Gilmanova

The increasing interest in the study of the interaction of several resonant fields with multilevel quantum systems is due to a wide range of possible applications of various effects observed in the multi-frequency excitation of quantum objects. Among them, we can note color echo holography, information compression in three-level environments, copying of quantum information, and multi-level quantum gates that perform logical operations. In addition, the recording and reproduction of echo holograms in multi-level systems leads to the possibility, along with logical operations, to perform a change in the real-time scale and the sequence of events in the echo-hologram response, the data on which were embedded into the temporal structure of the object laser pulse. The formation of optical transient processes in multilevel systems occurs when the short laser pulses separated in time and resonant of different frequency transitions at the substance have an effect on the system, so that their interaction with each other becomes possible only through the medium and only if the medium has a sufficiently long phase memory. In this situation, each laser pulse transmits information about its wave characteristics to the medium, and this information is retained here until the arrival of the next laser pulses. The formation of optical transient processes in a multilevel system in a solid depends essentially on the degree of correlation of the inhomogeneous broadening on different frequency transitions and different time intervals, in connection with the possible destruction of the reversible phase memory of the system due to a partial mutual fixation energies of transitions. The influence of external spatially inhomogeneous electric fields on the resonant medium can lead to an additional artificially created inhomogeneous broadening. In this case, it is possible to control the phase memory of the system by changing the parameters of external spatially inhomogeneous electric fields, and the most pronounced effect on phase memory is the case of laser excitation of narrow frequency regions of inhomogeneously broadened lines of the resonance transitions. Moreover, the artificially created inhomogeneous broadening by external spatially inhomogeneous electric fields due to the Stark effect can be comparable with the spread of frequencies due to a partial mutual fixation of the transition energies, which leads to a partial restoration of the coherence of the multilevel system. This effect can lead to an increase in the intensity of the response of the stimulated photon echo (SPE) in the three-level system, which is the opposite effect of photon echo locking.

Temporal compression of quantum-information-carrying photons using a photon-echo quantum memory approach

Sergey A. Moiseev, Wolfgang Tittel

We study quantum compression and decompression of light pulses that carry quantum information using a photon-echo quantum memory technique with controllable inhomogeneous broadening of an isolated atomic absorption line. We investigate media with differently broadened absorption profiles, transverse and longitudinal, finding that the recall efficiency can be as large as unity and that the quantum information encoded into the photonic qubits can remain unperturbed. Our results provide insight into reversible light-atom interaction and are interesting in view of future quantum communication networks, where pulse compression and decompression may play an important role in increasing the qubit rate or in mapping quantum information from photonic carriers with large optical bandwidth into atomic memories with smaller bandwidth.

Choice of a modulating sequence for code separation of channels in the optical memory based on photon echo

Anatolii N. Leukhin, L. G. Kornilova, A. Yu. Tyukaev

The possibility of applying of phase-coded sequences in optical-memory systems based on photon echo is considered. Comparative analysis of the characteristics of the efficiency of using noise-like phase-coded signals as reference and reading excitation pulses is performed. Choice of the optimal code sequence is substantiated.
