Abstract

Abstract We investigate photoinduced dynamical properties of the one‐dimensional two‐orbital degenerate Hubbard model by calculating the time‐dependent many‐electron wave function. The transient optical response spectra around the charge‐transferpeak show characteristic coherent oscillations, which can be attributed to the Raman‐active orbital excitations (orbitons). An analysis for the oscillating component shows that the photoinduced oscillations are caused by the quantum interference between photogenerated states. (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Photoinduced coherent oscillations in the one-dimensional two-orbital Hubbard model

Nobuya Maeshima, K. Hino, Kenji Yonemitsu

We study photoinduced ultrafast coherent oscillations originating from orbital degrees of freedom in the one-dimensional two-orbital Hubbard model. By solving the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation for the numerically exact many-electron wave function, we obtain time-dependent optical response functions. The calculated spectra show characteristic coherent oscillations that vary with the frequency of probe light. A simple analysis for the dominant oscillating components clarifies that these photoinduced oscillations are caused by the quantum interference between photogenerated states. The oscillation attributed to the Raman-active orbital excitations (orbitons) clearly appears around the charge-transfer peak.

Photoinduced dynamics in the one-dimensional two-orbital degenerate Hubbard model

Nobuya Maeshima, Kenji Yonemitsu, Ken-ichi Hino

We study photoinduced dynamical properties of the one-dimensional two-orbital degenerate Hubbard model. By using the Lanczos diagonalization method, we calculate optical conductivity spectra of the lowest photoexcited state. The optical conductivity has the Drude-like low-energy component caused by photogenerated carriers, a holon and a triplet doublon. We have also found an additional low-energy component in the spectra, which demonstrates a transition from the triplet doublon to singlet doublons.

Dynamics of Hubbard Nano‐Clusters Following Strong Excitation

M. Bönitz, S. Hermanns, Karsten Balzer

Abstract The Hubbard model is a prototype for strongly correlated electrons in condensed matter, for molecules and fermions or bosons in optical lattices. While the equilibrium properties of these systems have been studied in detail, the excitation and relaxation dynamics following a perturbation of the system are only poorly explored. Here, we present results for the dynamics of electrons following nonlinear strong excitation that are based on a nonequilibrium Green functions approach. We focus on small systems—“Hubbard nano‐clusters”—that contain just a few particles where, in addition to the correlation effects, finite size effects and spatial inhomegeneity can be studied systematically. Photoinduced in-gap excitations in the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model

Hantao Lu, Can Shao, J. Bonča +2 more

We investigate the time evolution of optical conductivity in the half-filled one-dimensional extended Hubbard model driven by a transient laser pulse, by using the time-dependent Lanczos method. Photoinduced in-gap excitations exhibit a qualitatively different structure in the spin-density wave (SDW) in comparison to the charge-density-wave (CDW) phase. In the SDW, the origin of a low-energy in-gap excitation is attributed to the even-odd parity of the photoexcited states, while in the CDW an in-gap state is due to confined photogenerated carriers. The signature of the in-gap excitations can be identified as a characteristic oscillation in the time evolution of physical quantities.

Energy transfer to phonons after photoexcitation in one‐dimensional correlated electron‐phonon systems

Kenji Yonemitsu, Nobuya Maeshima

Abstract In order to study relaxation rates of photoexcited states in correlated electron systems, we calculate the time evolution of phonons' kinetic energies after photoexcitation of a one‐dimensional half‐filled Hubbard model coupled with different types of phonons, which modulate transfer integrals, site energies, and on‐site repulsion strengths. Without or with weak dimerization, the energy transfer to phonons that modulate on‐site repulsion strengths is the largest. It increases rapidly as a function of the corresponding displacement. This suggests that the rapid relaxation of photoexcited states in one‐dimensional correlated electron systems is allowed without change in symmetry by phonons that modulate Coulomb repulsion strengths. Orbital‐selective Mott transitions in the 2‐band Jz‐model: a high‐precision quantum Monte Carlo study

P. G. J. van Dongen, C. Knecht, N. Blümer

Abstract Using high‐precision quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations within the framework of dynamical mean field theory (DMFT), we show that the anisotropic degenerate two‐orbital Hubbard model contains two consecutive orbital‐selective Mott transitions (OSMTs) even in the absence of spin‐flip terms and pair‐hopping processes. In order to reveal the second transition we carefully analyze the low‐frequency part of the self‐energy and the local spectral functions. This paper extends our previous work to lower temperatures. We discuss the nature – in particular the order – of both Mott transitions and list various possible extensions. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
